there are a lot of other things that went wrong with Katrina though - fraud at many levels. A lot of that aid money went places it shouldn't while other priorities were neglected.
think'n you kinda missed the point..
no, actually I got the point just fine. The problem is, you don't have clue #1 about Katrina other than what you see on Fox news but, like so many things, you're making comments on it. Carry on.

      Frank Garlock has been found.
The feds were trying to get in before the hurricain happened, but the local government told them they had it under control.
they had spent the money the government gave them to work on their weak leveys on other projects, thinking they could get away with it, unfortunately they were wrong.

          Re: Haiti

Haiti had 4 hurricanes, and now an earthquake in the last 2 years, and they have a 70% unemployment rate. They have no where to move to get away from the disasters.... the largest shame is that they had just started to have a stable government and they were moving in the right direction.

Katrina - Louisiana will always be in legal textbooks as the example of rampant corruption, graft, bigotry, and welfare society....

Really, there is no comparison other then one society that's never had a fair shake vs. one that has squandered all of their opportunities (and continues to do so).

Thus, I do feel sympathy for Haiti.... not so much for St. Louis.

IMO, I'd give Obama (and our government) an "A+" on our response and support to Haiti. Very sad circumstances.

I don't believe one can draw a clear comparison between Haiti and Katrina/New Orleans. Different circumstances, different aftermath, different needs, etc.

do you mean "parish" ? (term used there for "county")? I couldn't find anything near that name.

I don't see why its Americas problem?
I couldn't care less about Haiti, its a third world filth hole.
I also can see the Katrina spectacle, how do you give aid and new homes to people who had hardly nothing before hand.
It would be nice to get a new apartment when a hurricane destroyed your cardboard box you have been living in with your 9 kids!
I wish the news would stop shoving it down our throats with all the "amazing videos and gut wrenching heroism".
They love this because they don't have to dig for news and they might get an award for reporting it first.

It's not our "problem." However, did it ever occur to you that the greatness of a people (or country) is often measured by its empathy and outreach to others in need? Unfortunately, I don't think you appreciate what you have by being a citizen of the U.S.

                            Re: Haiti

Guys, I'm all for having this conversation and so far it has been kept to a reasonable level, so we're good for now, but let's not allow it to spiral out of control. This isn't directed at anyone, but I just felt the need to say it.

One thing that I heard on some news coverage this week was that there is only something like 100 Bulldozers/Front End Loaders/Big Dump Trucks in the ENTIRE COUNTRY. Hell, most single cities in the US have that much equipment. My sister-in-law's fiancee Jeff is a Marine lieutenant who recently returned from his second trip overseas (like a month ago). He got orders and is currently either on the way to Haiti or is already there. I'm not going to say he was excited to go because that's a horrible use of the word, but he was more than willing to get there and use his training to help the people. I think that alone speaks volumes about the men and women who are on the way there to try and help the people of Haiti start moving in the right direction with cleanup and rescue.
