In my opinion there is only 2.5 bad months. Good time to tinker with the car if you got all the daily drivers going ,I don't . The cold seems to bother me less the more insulation (FAT) I gather during the holidays .

Yeah, but Matt's a lean machine. He's used to 150 degrees in the shade. The arctic wind will blow straight through him.

QUICK! Who's in the area of Akron Indiana who has extra coats and insulated underwear and heated gloves and such??? We must keep Matt alive! You can't even buy combat gear like that down here in the tropics. Somebody help Matt!!!!!!!!!

So, where in Indiana you going to be, I have a buddy in the North-West Valpo area.
There are some nice Race tracks in Indiana of all shapes ( I loved Putnum park road course ) and there is this Classy Chassy place I went to once in Indy... Oh... nevermind.

Well, I'm sure Matt has enough clothes. As a stranger in a frozen wasteland, I was called to Canada in a February, and I just put on everything I had with me. Layers and layers. Dressed up like the kid in Christmas Story - I couldn't move, but I was warm enough. My suitcase ws empty when I left the motel at 2 degrees below zero outside.

But the Ice People have special clothes that you can't buy down here so you don't have to do all of that. That's what we don't have available down here, because we don't need it.

By an earlier post, I think maybe Matt may be packing the truck or driving it, as we speak. Go Matt go!

Ok, my advice as a former good and warm weather SoCal Resident moved to hell froze over is:

                  Thermals
Light sweater to wear under a heavier jacket
                  Gloves
                  Thick boots with thick socks.
Some sort of knit cap to round it off.

                  Carhart/Dickies suits work great too.
                  Escaped on a technicality.

Thermals, Carharts and boots for Indiana, ACK! I wouldn't wory about winter in Indiana, it's just a cute little extended cold spell down there. ;D
I just realized it's Akron, IN, Northern central middle of nowhere part (I mean that in a good way).
Not too far from Chicago or Indy if you are looking for an action packed weekend. Probably a nice corner of the world.
                    Good luck!

EVERYONE laughed at me my first winter here (2005-06), but I didn't care, I was WARM! And it was a warm winter, got to single digits maybe twice, and mostly hung around the upper teens at night and upper 20's during the day. Every winter since has been colder.

Hey everybody, thanks for the tips/encouragement. I'll be fine with the weather as I know how to layer. I love to whitewater paddle and one of my favorite rivers is rain fed which here means winter paddling. So if I can survive a sub freezing day on/in the river I think I'll be fine. Driving, on the other hand will be a different story alltogether. And yea, Randal, they'll be laughing at me as I walk by looking like the michellin man :D.

I've lived in ALOT worse places than here in north central Indiana. Snow and cold are just the reason to get all the indoor projects completed, and with three major cities within 3 hours of here and countless miles of beautiful shore, never mind the great tracks in the area, I'm sure Matt will never be bored or too cold. ;)

I asked where in Indiana in another thread, but I just re-read this one and found out. He can't be more than 2 hours from here, probably less. As a matter of fact I go pretty close on my way to work.

I've only been invading this site for a little over a year, and I've caused enough off-the-wall disruption, I'm sure.

But what I've seen from the three hotrod events Matt led me to - Maxton, Power Tour Stop in Chattanooga, and the Hotrod Reunion in Kentucky, this whole Bangshift scene is a brotherhood. It's not at all anything that you folks don't already know, but from a "outsider's point of view," it's visible. It's glaring. One big family. It's so cool. So very cool. I love it.
