Yep. Helped tech it after it's confirmatory run. The interesting thing is that the truck is more stock than you could imagine. It sports HUGE turbos and intercoolers but the short block is pretty much as Ford built it. Verifying displacement was difficult but the crew is fabbing an adaptor to facilitate pumping the engine ala NASCAR. It has the new Ford Diesel V8 with the exhaust and turbos in the valley. Oh, and LOTS of large diameter plumbing.
Spidey - the guy's a down-home Oakie and nice as can be. The car carries the logo for a ranch but I have no idea if that's where the $$ comes from.

I'd trade Bubba the Truck in on that. I could get to work in about 2.5 minutes at that speed. But it's a hilly, curvy, narrow road with a 35 speed limit, so I'd probably pass Kyle Busch on my way, since his car is only a toy...
Let me tell ya - that new 6.7 is a BEASTIE - a guy at work has one with a bunch of "off highway" parts on it. It's flippin recockulus, he's on his 100th or so calibration revision on this thing and he can boil the all terrain TA's at will at nearly any speed. This is with totally stock engine hardware, larger diameter exhaust, and typical "cold air intake". I'm sure in this trim it wouldn't pass a smog test - as I'm guessing the 182mph monster wouldn't either. But WOW.
There were large variations in top speed based on fuel only - the energy content of the B100, petro diesel and B20 must be more different than I realized.
The guys that put this thing together should be very proud - the most recent GMC attempt in diesel pick up was "only" 166mph.
This is what a dude on another forum who works in Ford's diesel program had to say:

Yep.
I know all about it. Had to keep my mouth shut.
The vehicle will come back, engine out, tear-down inspect, re-build. Going for 200mph next time.
We changed a gear, went to 240 gear, (9 inch rear end) gave her 5% more fuel... No black smoke visible (we can dump much more fuel) RPM was only 3,300. We left so much on the table.
hot rodding has gotten to be a pissing match amongst millionaires
As opposed to a pissing match between drunk rednecks? (see video of Ford vs. Chevy monster trucks posted a few days ago for reference)
I love seeing it either way. Whether it's a high-tech diesel put together to smash records at Bonneville or a pile of junk put together from leftover parts, at least they are out there DOING it. THAT's hod rodding.
