i think it can do it, however there maybe some pre trenching around the stump for the mentioned growth of vegetation around the stump. just my .02
Stump Pulling... Brutus?

Bruab, I'd recommend cheating. Side load it to see were the roots are, then wear out a chainsaw blade cutting the roots. Pick it straight up, act like it's working really hard. Take video, give Steve the nyah nyah bit.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

I would double cheat and leave the water hose on the surrounding stump area for about 3 days.....Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

gears and power proprtionate to weight can do alot more than big mouths remember.
a 4lo 90hp subaru at 1781cc can tug a mobile home.
I remember some of those rigs as brin is getting, 366ci ets.
10000 pounds to the log mill...while on the back of the truck.
my dad has been driving long enough where manual steering and 350 cummins non-turbo was hauling 50 tons of steel...or even back to the 290s.
empty, that littrle cab over might have weighed 10000 pounds. Adam ant stories are out there. It used to be every freaking day.

I bruab is in his wrecker and being passed by the random dog and/or cat who happens to be walking down the road....
here's the wagers I want to see - 500 miles of travel, top speed of that truck is 60 mph....in a decent car, he should make it home in ~ 9 hours..... how long do you think he'll actually be driving that truck to get it home? add in traffic, traffic jams, gas stops, and the puzzler how long he's going to showing the world his vertical smile
from the front of that truck with the hood open. (No sleeping time).
my bet - 72 hours.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

I've been thinking about the whole set-up here and its natural conclusion and have decided that I'm going to have to tell Brian not to do it. Twin swing-out booms pullin' 30K lbs on a pair of PTO winches loaded against a tree stump is a formula for calamity. I'm really worried that Brian is going to be way out of his league here and end up hurting himself and regretting this crazy stunt.
Bry, I'm going to tell you just this one time - you need to back away from this insane fantasy of yours, and get a grip on reality. Pullin' tree stumps with Brutus - at first I thought you had to be joking. If you wont do it for yourself, get this madness out of your mind for those around you that you love. I can't for the life of me figure how a guy that's never pulled anything more than a weed from his garden can jump to day-dreaming about pulling a tree stump with a tow truck. Bry, you're a super great guy, but this kind of a spectacular feat is way past your pay-grade.

I yanked out a 40 year old Orange tree about 6 mounths ago with my duramax, and basically just idled the thing out of there. And at that it left a big ass hole in the ground to the point that I didn't have to dig a deeper hole for the new tree..... I've pulled all sorts for stumps from citrus to Juniper and never had a problem. Main thing is just to load the straps/cables slowly and don't do any jerking motions...... Just let the motor work for you, and slowly bring on more if needed.......Originally posted by dulcich View PostI've been thinking about the whole set-up here and its natural conclusion and have decided that I'm going to have to tell Brian not to do it. I've pulled a few shrubs out of the front flower bed with Bubba the Truck (a stock F-150). Pansy stuff, well, little stuff. I can fully understand Brian's love for pulling stumps.
I mean, I can really ID with it. Heavy chain....HuuuRahhhh.....but that was small stuff. But even at that it was really really fun. That IS a rush, a sense of ....well, I guess manhood or power. HUUUrahhhhh! That is really fun pulling stuff out of the ground.
Easily pulled everything we wanted gone, until we came to the Big Blue Thing. Maybe 4 inches in diameter at the base (So now all of y'all are laughing). We don't even know what kind of plant (bush, tree?) this is, but it must be it the holly class, and it has the root system from hell...well, Bubba couldn't do it.
We think that the root system for this thing is holding up the corner of our house because the house is settling something awful, and it should have already settled more except for something - this plant's roots.
I hooked up the chain to Bubba and took off and when the slack ran out, Bubba did a minor wheelstand. Nothing doing. Nothing violent, I don't want to mess up my daily driver.
And I don't know the first thing about cars or trucks. So, with that in mind, I'm betting, and I don't want to wager anything, but I'm betting absolutely nothing that Brian can't pull that big tree stump out of the ground, I don't care what he's got. Not without digging.Charter member of the Turd NuggetsComment

Well look, I've about had it with the bullcrap. If you are going to pull a 20+ inch Willow stump and lay claim to glory, pull that SOB out. Don't go in and swamp the dirt with water, dig it out with a shovel, and hack the roots with a chainsaw. Listen, girls, a tough kid with a BigWheel can drag a stump around the yard at that point. I've had it! I don't give a crap about Brian any more. Tension-up those cables till they're ready to snap, and show us how its done. And if you lay claim to stump pulling - TC and Dippy boy, post up the pics or STFU.

Steve, man I can see the steam coming out of your ears from here in NY!
Just picked up the truck today, drove it 20 miles to the hotel. Going to wrench on it in the parking lot and then make half the drive tomorrow and half on Sunday.
The truck will be sitting on asphalt, and I am going to wrap a big chain around the stump and pull the chain with the wrecker unit. All parties will be evacuated from the area and I'll have the cables weighted in case they break. If I can do it on Monday, I will. If not it will be next weekend. That mother is going down.
Steve, thanks for the concern for my well being, but if you saw the tires I drove that truck on for 20 miles today, even YOU would have slapped me.

Brian, I sure do thank you for keeping me on this forum for a couple of years, and it's been the most fun I've ever had on the computer....
But without betting, I don't think you can pull that stump out of the ground.
I love it. Make sure there's film at eleven! I'll eat my words with gravy if you can do it!Charter member of the Turd NuggetsComment

You're damned right I'm steamed, with the load of stump-pulling bullcrap on this thread. Look, I've had my Ophra Moment, and to tell you the truth, I'm over it. Right now, I just want you to show me the goods, period , end of story. Hook up those chains, clutch it, pull up on the PTO knob, and let that bastard rip. Come win, lose, or draw, post it up as it comes down, and I've got nothing to bitch about. If I smell you're sandbagging, though, I'll do all I can to hang your ass.Originally posted by Brian Lohnes View PostSteve, man I can see the steam coming out of your ears from here in NY!
