    Stupid exit ramps

Why is it that most exit ramps are down hill and the entrance ramps are uphill? I drove to Texas and back last week and It seems like every time I stop for fuel or food or whatever, I have to stop 75,000 lbs going downhill and then I have to accelerate all that weight uphill and merge into 70mph traffic.

    Who designs this stuff?

Why gearheads of course! If you're in a proper car then an uphill acceleration ramp increases your chances of burning the tires all the way to the end of it. If your driving an underpowered front wheel drive crapwagon then you're receiving your punishment every time you get on the freeway.

As much as I like this one most the ones in Southern California that I remember the on ramps are down hill and the off ramps are uphill because most the cross streets are Over-passes.
      Escaped on a technicality.

Interstates are usually above local roads ..

        .. that's why they call them high-ways !!

STD.....as A guy who has been that seat before...it blows.

The ramps suck but the people who think that a semi truck can accelerate like a Hemi 'Cuda and stop like a Bugatti Veryon are worse.

Anyone else on here HATE the Texas style on/off ramps with the access roads? Man, those things will drive you nutz! It's like a state-wide accident waiting to happen, as you have to cross lanes of traffic every time you want to get on or off the road - stupid set-up.

We have that too, plus all the turns are off camber.

I hate it when the exit lane and the on ramp lane are together so that those exiting have to pretty much stop for the those coming onto the highway before they can get onto the exit lane/ramp. There's gotta be a better way!

Amarillo merging was fun, really short entrance ramps and long turn offs. Access roads on the side to get you on the other side while your still looking at the guy on the exit. This guy designed the the Baltimore Express way and the DC Loop no doubt. In Greenville , SC. we have Exit and On Ramps within a few Hundred feet from each other, this way they can get you coming and going. Awsome!

                    Re: Stupid exit ramps

The worst ones are the off-ramps that exit from the fast (left) lane, like in downtown Seattle, when your not expecting it, and your pulling a 48 ft. trailer, in morning rush hour, and your late for your appointment, and you have to drive 9 miles to get turned around! >

I hate the Cloverleaf design...When I am in my work van. I have nearly rolled that thing so many times. No slow down area followed by tight turns.

Now when I am in a Hot Rod....I Love cloverleafs.

I just need to figure out how to drive the van less. ;D

cloverleaves drive me crazy. go from 65 to 15mph in a second and try not to crash. oh, and wait, youre sharing the on-off lane with people getting on while you get off! its like its designed by a body shop or an ambulance service. maybe a helicopter ambulance service..

as for trucks not accelerating, why bother? just turn on the blinker and merge, the 4 wheelers will either get over, or get ran over. they wont see a thing, they are on their cell phones, texting, playing games and whatnot..if theres a crash and nobody sees it happen, is it really a crash?

                          Re: Stupid exit ramps

Those Texas ramps are way stupid. You get off nowhere near an intersection and you trust that the people on the service drive are going to stop. Then when you want to get back on, you have no Idea how far you have to go to find the ramp.

Then you add in the nations worst drivers( not all of you), and it's just a big mess.

+1 on the work vans. I drive E-series vans all the time for work with a full load and a full ladder rack, its taught me to slow down a little. the box truck is even worse....
