    Washington State

Beside not having snow up to my adz 6 months a year, not having 110% humidity... there is more good news

If your car is built after 2009, you never need go get it smog checked. No plug in. No checks at all....

and in other news, we've built a fence between Oregon and Washington - we're checking IDs. If you're a refugee from California we will only grant you a temporary green card. There are conditions. You can't participate in the political process (except in Seattle, and no one cares about Sodom on the sound).

Isn't that 'fence' just a really big river with a bunch of really questionable bridges across it?

maine has a similar battle. the kenahdans and wal mart. Should just conquer the St. Lawrence seaway, stop a lot of trouble.

All you would need is to put big signs on the Oregon side of those bridges. "Caution! Cross Bridge At Your Own Risk. By Order of Department of Transportation"

California has had a rolling seven or so year rule for a long time on no new vehicle smog checks. Might even be longer than that. But it does start the every other year rotation after that.
              Escaped on a technicality.

It's four years, then start the smog tests.

It used to be - 5 years, then checks every other year. So this new rule, no checks for 2009 and newer is pretty awesome - especially since we have the rolling 25 year exemption - so anything 25 years or older doesn't get checked.... thus, but 2034 - no checks at all.

I remember they were talking about this - they did some study that said the number of cars still on the road after 25 years were such a minimal polluter that it was costing them more to monitor than it was worth (for Clean Air Act).

Cali's Association of Smog Testers testified in front of Cali's bozo squad, I mean the state congress, and showed that the vast majority of gross polluters in the state were cars 8-11 years old.

My parents moved back to my Dad's hometown of Deep River when he retired. He loves it, but the amount of rain they get is staggering, he regularly gets more rain in a day than we see in a year.

haha that's pissa no checks on new cars, and I wonder if Washington state will go like most states with a rolling year cut off, cali 4 years my state nothing!!! obII up gets just pluged into the cars com. port
so the 98 back gets tested until you get 25 years old then no testing, just it can't be a smoke stack HA!

but like anything government, rules subject to change at the whim of some jackwagon looking to make a name for him/her self..
here because of the hybrids, electrics and soon coming fuel cell
they are try'n to pass a milage tax.. everyyear when inspected they'll record your milage and then the state will send you a bill.. HOW nice>>

Our state is funny. It's county by county and every county is a little different. But the gist of it is:

"Hybrid vehicles that get 50 mpg or better in the city are exempt from emissions testing. But emissions testing is required for all other gasoline and diesel vehicles between five and 25 years old that are registered in the following Washington counties:
                              • Clark
                              • King
                              • Pierce
                              • Snohomish
                              • Spokane

Your car will need to be retested every two years."

My next daily driver will be from 1978 to 1982, so I don't have anything to care about.
