Some one older than me needs to explain why colors like this were so popular in the '70's, Buttstain Brown, Snot Green, Puke Yellow, Rotten Orange, and other "earth tones". It's not just the cars of the era, it was the clothes, the shag carpeting and kitchen appliances.

Don't forget furniture too. When you find the answer share it with the rest of us because even though I lived through it, I never understood it either. Then there was the pastel '80s that I didn't understand either.

That's O.K. From the late 80's on every third car is white and frequently needing a wash. Don't even imply they're all Bill Jenkins fans!

Damn I'm old, defending the 70s, 4 decades ago!

I've renovated my share of houses that were plagued with 70's stuff.... simply horrifying. Thankfully my folks were conservative - we had leisure suits, but not the carpet or furniture to match.

One of my Dad's buddies loved orange - everything he had was orange. Car, clothes, golf bag, telephone, furniture, even the fixtures in the bathroom - toilet, tub, vanity - all orange! Not burnt orange either! Remember the "trim line" phones in every color of the rainbow?

there's a red one hanging on the wall of my barn! not hooked to a damned thing - but I think I'll leave it there for nostalgia.

My wife's best friend grew up with Velour-wallpaper in the bathroom.

The design of said Velour-wallpaper featured lots of naked ladies.

It is still there to this day. Her dad is a retired teacher. Yes, it was his idea, and yes they still live there.

                          Can't make this stuff up......

Our bathrooms had velour on a foil background. Simply hideous and a total bitch to remove when you have to sell the house.

White was the most popular color for years and years until the dark green minivans came along in the '90's and finally bumped white off the top of the heap color wise.
