There is a great looking L-series big rig running out of a business around the corner from my office.

    Great looking truck.

Jeremy, I actually drove a dump truck with that 543ci engine and it was awful, even for a dump truck!

That which you manifest is before you.

Ditto that, I took an afternoon off when the caravan went through Wisconsin and it was awesome!
I'm not even a big drag racing guy and I really enjoyed it.

well, those of us on the left coast will never have to worry about any hot rod mag sponsored event coming within 1000 miles of us again--especially this one, we don't even have 5 drag strips, much less 5 GOOD drag strips-out here anymore.

Oh John boy, you sooo need to brush up on your heavy blue ovals. That's an L series, what americans usually call a Louisville, based on the town in Kentuckey where they were made between 1970 and 1998. The smallest was a 7000, which is what the one pictured looks like, judging by the smaller front axle and 10.00x20 rubber. Alot of these early L series were gas powered with Ford 543ci mill, what a pig they were.

There is a neat list on the this link telling the difference between all the models of L series over the years.

Should have known better than to comment - my memory is fading you know - now that I'm 40 everything starts going to sh!t right? We had one tractor with a cab like that at the excavating shop... diesel of course. We had one '81 I think that was a plow truck with a belly blade, two axle dump I think it may have had that awful gas V8 in it - I just remember they had me rebuild the holley carb on it 'cause they liked how my mustang ran. ;D

There's always something new to learn.

Our 3rd annual "Rumble" event is coming next month, this will be the last year before the vert ramp gets torn down. Until then there's a bit of freshening-up going on. Pics from yesterday:

.What type of Ford is that truck?.

That's an LT series Ford Truck, probably a 9000 version...
