It appears the lever on the differential moves from left to right (D/S to P/S) so I understand how the emergency brake works on the drivers side but how does it work on the passenger side? It looks like the linkage between the lever and the actuator at the brake is a typical wire cable and it would appear that that cable is pushing not pulling on the right brake assembly. I'm so confused.
My Samurai (s) have this same style system.
It does confuse your train of thought.
Look closely, it actually is pulling both cables shorter as if if you were pulling a tight string in the middle, forward to form a Vee.
It's line of pull is bending the cross cable to both brakes.

I'm sure Dan can explain it better, maybe with drawings.

    • I could do a video if that helps. I think I can get ME to pull the handle while I vid the result. And yes - a first blush it doesn't seem right.

      • On to the brake lines. I can't get too far on them until I have the replacement master cylinder, servo, etc. but I can at least get the rear line run while the car is still on the rotisserie. Less crawling under the car.

The lines all run down the left side though I think that changes on the right hand drive cars. As shown in this pic there was a rubber comb sort of thing that held the lines in place as they passed thru the bolt-on support straps that hold them up under the car as shown in this pic.

The rubber comb things from my car were long dead and I found that these are no longer available. This is the first part for this car that I wasn't able to order up either from Moss in CA or from Rimmer Bros in England. So I did some magic with slit rubber hose as shown. To fill the available space it took two layers but it seems like it'll work just fine.

The connection to the rear rubber line. This bracket came out nicer than yesterday's effort but it was just a hunk of recycled angle from something or other that I'd made years ago. This more or less replicates the factory routing. The fuel lines will run thru these same supports so I left everything loose but in place for now.

And a bit more of an overall view. The factory routing uses a coupling at the engine bay end of the rear brake line and so does this reproduction line set.

        • Back on his feet:

Seems like the MGB is at a point to start fitting the engine which won't go well with the car on the rotisserie so time to make him look a bit more like a car again. It took a bit of fiddling but mission accomplished.

Before installing the wheels it's necessary to treat the splines with anti-seize. Yes, the wheel splines can get stuck on the hubs and they're a stinker to get off when that happens.

First time on his tires since I started this project. I think he likes it.

But to work out the engine installation there will be lots of crawling under so it's better to work with the body in a position that facilitates that. Here he is sitting on his tires but a foot in the air on the boxes I made some years ago to do this same job on the race truck. Notice thatt the LF tire is sitting on a box with chocks screwed down so he can't roll off and additionally the handbrake is set.

So tomorrow I'll bolt the engine and trans back together and hopefully make the first test fit.

OK. So I can't type - or know my right from my left.

              • Cut Dan some slack - he's use to working on it upside down

did it have trouble standing on its feet after hanging on its head for so long?
Doing it all wrong since 1966

He's a little woozy but doing well. Crying out for an engine, though.

Leather string back driving gloves, tweed flat cap, shooting jacket with the elbow patches, and ww1 aviator goggles. He's a British car after all. Even after the engine repower. Just like a Cobra was just an AC Ace with a small block Ford engine. Dan then needs a Sherlock Holmes curved stem pipe. I know he doesn't smoke, he can blow bubbles with it...

And there it is, his name: Bubbles!

Sorry Dan, we'vegot a name for himself (a wee touch of the Blarney, has he...)
