    Project Stealth Bomber

This is the start of the buildup. Marko Radielovic joined Farley's Page as he was thrashing to get it ready, he did the exhaust afterwards after we teased the shit out of him. That's where I get the 80hp. mark. He sold the car to another Farley's member (Black88) and it's awating a 727 swap...the 998 didn't like life behind the 360.

Tomorrow, the coolant system gets flushed. I've looked inside the radiator...this oughta be good. I'll bring the camera.

Don't mention the word flush this evening....I recently (like an hour ago) carried my shop vac outside wearing welding gloves.

      I'm self medicating now.

      Oh, 80 ####ing hp?!

A SHOP-VAC? Jesus, WTF did you flush out of your system? Family of squirrels?!

(I did that to the Diplomat's HVAC system. Was NOT pleasant.)

        And yes, 80 ####ing HP. :D

If so, check it for a visual reference of what the Lean-burn system is. The similarity is amazing....

Bryan, did you check summit/jegs for a pre bent system for a similiar dodge. I put one on the camaro (it actually fits a variety of GMs) and it fit perfect with a bit of trimming/tweaking. I just don't know what might cross over in application for the Mirada.

Closest system is for A-body, with tweaking it should fit an M, meaning a couple more inches in the pipe to fit a J. But with the price this guy is doing it for, it's cheaper than the kit and comes with mufflers too, so I won't complain.

Amen. Will be swapping over to an Edelbrock intake and 650-ish CFM carb soon.

                        Re: Remy's '81 Mirada CMX

To really answer the lean burn question - it was Chrysler's early attempt to allow the engine to run leaner when the demand on the engine would allow it and richer only when it had to be. To do that it used some early electronics that really weren't up to the task as, if I remember corectly, no feedback like O2 sensors or the like. This was all done with a carb, not EFI. So it made lots of bad decisions and the cars ran poorly. One of the VERY few cars I ever removed an emissions system from was my Mom's Cordoba as it really wasn't safe to drive with stalling, etc. All in all, a bad early attempt at emissions control.

It's official as of tonight: The Mirada has true duals, headers, and no cats! I will be picking it up late tomorrow. Total price was $650, labor included.

Talking with J. on the phone, he's a nice, polite, soft-spoken man. I'm quoting him:

"Man, I don't know a more polite way to say this...your car was a motherf^@%er!"

Apparently, the whole K-frame came out, he broke the oil filter adapter, the plasma torch came out during this, along with new water and oil....took a full day to gut the old system, two days to fit the headers, and another day to finish the pipe. If I understood him correctly, they dump just before the rear axle.

Oh, that one piece...the one with the built-in cats....it weighed 104 lbs. from manifolds to main cat, and all three cats were solid shut. I got it just in time, it showed melting/hardening wear.

I'll bring the camera tomorrow then, if you've got the right place picked out...

I've never seen a mechanic happier to get a car out of his garage. Fired right off, cold, and settled into idle. It's NEVER done that before...usually needs "the tool" to keep it at a happy idle. No choking/sputtering crap anymore. To get it to 70mph is not a fight but way too easy now. Small bonus-since he dropped the suspension to make things fit, the front end's tracking is 10x better, too!

I tested it out in the same location as the "bad burnout video". Instead of praying for wet asphalt and loose sand, it spun right up no problem. It's not loud, but very, very deep. I'm content.

                              Running Total:

                              Hooker headers: already owned
                              Installation/labor/Thrush Turbo mufflers/parts: $650

                              Total: $1,971
