^^^ what DB said - I use a propane torch and get it just to the 'smoke' stage then scrape it off
Doing it all wrong since 1966

Yeah, anything gooey...a sandblaster can't touch. After the propane torch/scraper thing, laquer thinner and a Scotch-brite pad (and loads of paper towells, don't let the thinner evaporate before wiping as it will just re-deposit the greases) will leave it ready to prime.

It sure would be cool if you could drop the upper a-arm inner mounts a bit, as in Shelby Mustangs, but that doesn't look like it'd be easy.

      Front discs?

...and keep a good edge on the putty knife. Some experimentation may be in order -- with a sharp putty knife you can sometimes get away without using heat, depending on how much the undercoat has dried out over the years. Dirty work either way, unless you have a rotisserie.

Those were fine looking cars back in the day and have become even more distinctive-looking given the trends in styling over the past 40 years.

What's going to drive it down the road? AMC power or are you going the 'hotrod hybrid' route?

Good luck. Looking forward to future posts.

WOW Thanks guys for the info. A little heat and a puddy knife. A little thinner. I,m like Daaaah! Going out in a bit and play. I,m not sure how to reply to each person yet. I think I use Reply instead of Reply to post. As for the drive train want to go back with the 401 and stay with the AMC thing. But Have a nice 383 small block sitting on the stand that seams to scream n (Pic Me Pic Me) LOL .Oh an Loren going to remove the arms. I installed new bushings some years ago with new ball joints. But have decided to redo them rather than have to do it again later. Just dont want to take the chance. Thanks again guys for the help. This is the reason I joined here. Looking forward to talking more to u guys. Will figuar out how to reply to each post. Off for a couple of days so off the shop to play.

OK tried the heat and putty knife. Thanks for that info guys. Works so much better than the way I was going about it. It gets it off well enought to use the ole sand blaster now as you can see got a ways to go. I do see a rotiserie come n. Going to get some good ideas and get to the steel company and get out the welder and mabe build one. Well that was as far as I got today. Will hit it again tomarrow. gots to research this rotiserie thing [/IMG]

That's a cool project you have. There are several guys here with them. I use to have a 72 Gremlin X, 304, 3 speed. I swapped in a T10 out of a Javelin, put dual exhaust and Casler headers on it. It was a fun car but really sucked trying to go up hills in the snow. Sold it after 1 winter. Also had a 58 Rambler when I was in HS. Loved the fins!

Thanks Huskin I had a friend that had a grimlin I like that car it was a v-8 to and a blast to drive. My very first car was a 63 rambler with a 3 speed on the floor with another shifter for overdrive. It was cool to have two sticks in the floor.

I am like the other guys here. There something about its lines that I like. The unusually long fenders with the ridges, the really short deck, the rear sail panels, etc. One of my childhood friends who has since passed away had a 72 Hornet sedan with a 304 4 bbl and 3 speed he put on the floor. It was absolutely hideous with paint roller bright red that really didnt cover the cars original yellowish color, but it moved very quickly.
