You da man.... now heat - once you get the car running again (triffling detail :P)

You could do what I did in my 62 skylark - if it was too cold (lower than 15 degrees) you could wrap the motor in a blanket , completely block the grill and it still wouldn't heat up..... so I drove in one of those fancy sleeping bags where the bottom unzips first and a ski hat...... if you leave the windows down (it really didn't matter heatwise) the windows don't freeze up on the inside ;D

Randall sounds hard core enough to be a Yooper or Husker.. perhaps we should bestow an honorary title upon him.

I don't know what either of those are :-\ :'( I still fear rust though! I didn't fight one bolt, and you see how the fenders and such are :-X

I got three other vehicles to drive before I get to that point! Though now I'm thinking leaves and such might be why the heater in the Centurion doesn't work that well and why the A/C only worked Ok. The suit I wear would probably work as well as the sleeping bag idea.

That's a classic example of the HVAC guy and the body design guy not talking until the two parts met and it was too late to change anything....

          Randal

UPer's are folks from the UP of Michigan - known to be tough as nails - unaffected by cold - and able to drink their body weight in beer.

Huskers - are folks built from the same mold - but born in Nebraska.
There's always something new to learn.

              Nice job Randall.

Reminds me, I have a similar job to do. This is what the PO left me to work with in the Malibu. At least there seems to be a smudge more room in a G than an X....

Thanks John (and Thumpin455). Woke up to this, I parked the Jeep there at 11pm. Let it snow let it snow let it snow :P

(notice the trunk is squared off?)

Beagle, I've always heard from my Old Man heater core's in Ford Trucks (pre ~'90) are a piece of cake to do.

Dang Stiney, that an A/C delete car? ;D Actually my first thought when I saw the picture was, "Hey you can see the blower motor" :P

Re: The Silver Buick's well Silver Buick!

Its just a light dusting, same thing we get every time it doesnt snow. All powder, easy to move. Relax it should be gone by June, July for sure.

The absolute worst heater core I ever did was a late 80s Lincoln Mk VIII. The entire dash needs to be unbolted, the AC needs to be drained and refrigerant recovered, then you can move the dash about 6-8 inches and squeeze in behind it to reach the heater core with one hand and remove the 16 or so bolts holding it in. If I remember right it only paid like 6 or 8 hours too.

So far the easiest one I did was in my Centurion, top down, pulled the whole dash with little effort, put the dash in the back seat, and there was a ton up room under the hood. My friend's '74 442 on the other hand, that mofo was buried in the very middle of the dash.

worst I did was an 89 S-10 Extended cab truck.... it was so bad that I broke the new heater core while putting it in (no, really you do have to remove the entire &*%$^&&*** dash.

Thank you Randal-I feel like a whiney little bitch now. :D I have a shop and I haven't touched any of my junk in a month cause it's too damn cold.

Heater cores in G-bodies are easy-the top comes off the box and the core pulls out straight up. It's nice that the blower motors aren't buried on them either. Replacing the box is another matter-good luck getting that done with motor in.

Got the Skylark started. The tach wire must not of been happy after getting a tugged on a bit while reaching for some heater box nuts. I gave it a light tug before and it felt secure, so I unscrewed the connection, pulled it out, looked at it, looked fine, put it back in, tightened the retaining screw on the relay board and it fired right up :-\ So it's back out in the snow so my DD Jeep can be in the Carport.

Cool Snow effect though, Mother Nature put a spoiler on it ;D
