You can get lost in Billy's site for a few years, and the guy is very very very smart, he works in a theory world, remember yours is a real one.

Billy is a Pioneer and you have seen his work from the Early days, but a very humble guy.

I was planing on making a set of cal trac like bars for the ranger.

Thanks to BBR - we all have the front triangle plate patterns available.

My plan was to weld two pieces of plate (or square tubing cut open on the front side)
to the underside of the axle tube between the u bolts that the heim joint would bolt into, then use 1/4 or 3/16 plate for the front mounts at the front spring bolt.
There's always something new to learn.

How about a truck arm? Maybe pirate one off a 67-72 truck? The Hot Rod to Hell guys seem to have good luck or so there adds say. I know it's not leaf sprung but I was hoping for a real world guinea pig.

          Steve

Btw what ever happened to the big truck in Arizona?

Well I have stopped buying stuff for cars I don't own. Is that a step in the right or wrong direction?

            Spring over axle version:

Can also be done like this by welding a lower bracket to the housing:

Made another set for a buddy of mine's 64 Nova last night.

I got to do the easy part (plasma), and made him do all the grinding. lol They will look pretty good once welded up and painted.

It looks light on pinion angle for cal-tracs

Whattayouse guys think of this setup?

Its from a jeep pickup build done by Jp Magazine a couple years ago. They said it controlled axlewrap with 6.86 gearing and 49 inch tires, so it definitely withheld some serious leverage.

Would it work on the street/strip?

This is a closeup of the frame end:

It's basically a ladder-bar with a shackle joint at the frame end to avoid binding.

                        HA! Not much yet!

I just hate the whupwhupwhupwhupwhup of spring hop... That, and the bouncing might make some rusty parts fall off, and I can't afford that!
