    Oil Cooler Lines/Fittings ...

    95 Chevy Silverado, 5.7, 4X4.

Oil cooler lines from radiator to oil filter housing replaced, O rings that push into the fittings in the filter housing:

My question is, is there a trick to reassembling these? O ring .... plastic clip then push it together right?

Nope, no dice, they leak. Is there a certain order the O rings and plastic clip go in? Is there only one o ring per fitting or two? I can't find the exact size o rings at the parts store, is it a GM specific o ring?

    HELP!

Don't the plastic clips going on the back side of the lip? And the o-ring on the front side?

I'm not sure I'm right! Namely, short of cutting the line, how do you get the clip behind the lip?

If I remember correctly gm changed their oil cooler line and fitting design. I think it was around 94 or 95. Is there a chance you got the fittings and lines mismatched?

o ring goes into a grove in the fitting then the plastic clip goes on the line lube it up and push it together make sure the oring in IN the grove so it does not get cut

It won't fit over the lip ... I was thinking the same thing ....

This is the correct style for this year. The new lines and fittings, etc are the same as what is being replaced.

That's what I tried, but the connection is still loose and pisses oil out. Is it possible that the o rings are old and compressed enough to not make a tight seal? I tried a few different size parts store o rings but it still leaks ... GM only o rings????

Dan, in your pic the line is not fully seated and "locked" by the clip. Nor is clip "locked into fitting. There should be a plastic retainer for the o-ring (like fuel line) or groove to locate it in fitting. GM used some odd sized o-rings in lots of their fittings. You may need correct size o-ring or new fitting which would come ready to go. However, all bets are off until line/fitting are assembled correctly. Install o-ring, then clip fully, then push line in until "locks". Good Luck

I fought those lines on my old truck (a 93) - finally I gave up and bought new.... I'm hoping you get it together so I can figure out what I did wrong :

This pic was just to show what I was working with .... It's just a pain to take it back apart once the plastic goes over the ridge on the tube. That piece of tubing is one of the old lines I cut off. The new oil cooler lines did not come with o rings, just the plastic clips .... so the steel fitting comes as a complete assembly?....fitting o rings and some sort of plastic retainer in addition to the locking piece?

So when all else fails, go to the dealer. The steel fittings are dealer only, with non serviceable o rings. There is a plastic bushing that is pressed in AFTER the factory puts the o ring in it. If the o ring comes out when you pull the lines out (which this one did) you have to replace the fittings as well.
