Could you put a wheel speed sensor on each of the wheels at the end of the wheelie bar and measure your speed with any accuracy?

Or do they lock-up and drag after a point?

Or am I all crazy talk?

I was thinking a fifth wheel mounted between the wheelie bar wheels to more accurately measure the vehicle's ground speed.

we're working on some new stuff, but have to be careful who reads about it before we get it working.

What? What are you worried about? Nobody believes ANYTHING they read on the internet anyway!

Would a GPS speedometer feed info quickly enough?

Also fan stuff, have you been involved with Turky's car and El General at all? If so how are the tuning challenges at the track different than Larry and Chad's truck? I just see a bit more weight and possibly poorer distribution.

Edit: Industry standard on GPS is 5Hz. I guess GPS couldn't replace driveshaft speed as 2 tenths of tire spin=race over, but possibly as a tuning aid? Another curve for your graphs?

I did some drivability tuning on both those pro mods. The big joke at Proline is my nickname: "johnny cold start" - so not really anything to do with the performance on those cars, just did some cleanup on the tune because it bugs me when an EFI car doesn't run like a minivan should.

On the GPS - there are 100hz systems out there but they're too slow. Tried 'em. Still working on something new though.

It's an honorable position, Johnny Cold Start. At one of the first Mile High Nationals in Denver Bill Jenkins fired off a qualifying shot covering the field, then spent the rest of the day tweaking on the car to get it to idle smoother. Got inside everybody's head with that.

550+ data points would make a really nice curve for comparison with driveshaft speed for the NEXT run though, wouldn't it?

Plus now some type of car attitude sensing seems needed for possible wheelstand limiting? Thinking about Dewayne Mills mid-track powerstand. Was that a case of maybe too much really good tuning for the physics of reality to cope with? Software Wheeliebars?

I'm thinking monitor front suspension travel and keep just a tad of weight on the front wheels?
