I can't wait until the pickup Coyotes start becoming available. I might have to play around with one.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Oh how I wished I was bringing something that sweet!
BTW, I was out in the middle of nowhere this afternoon with almost no gas in my "storebought" Coyote. I shut off the AC and slowed it down to conserve fuel so I'd make it to the next town. The Coyote slammed out 33.5 m.p.g. in rolling terrain at a steady 45 m.p.h. After I got a splash (at well over $4.20/gallon), I upped the speed to 60 and cranked the AC. The m.p.g. average for the second test section (about 40 miles) only dropped to ~ 30. That's simply amazing for a heavy car with more than 400 h.p.Comment

great mileage! I wonder if it would be better with the ac on and the windows closed?
I filled up my truck today...I didn't check the mileage. Fortunately I got the truck at the bottom of the price curve, and it's heading back up now....My fabulous web page

To clarify . . . The 45 m.p.h. economy "test" was AC off, windows up, blower fan on low (blowing hot air), radio and cruise control on, all other electrical loads off. Ambient temps were ~ 94 degrees F.
It got kind of hot in the cabin, but no more so than when I've worn my fire suit and helmet for some track events. I enjoyed the 60 m.p.h. air conditioned test more.Comment

I very seldom run windows down for that reason. Also I suspect it speeds up delamination of the foam-backed headliner.Originally posted by milner351 View Postwindows down aero is horrible.... best economy is windows closed vent on - but the AC systems are more efficient than they used to be.
But open track days require open windows for "safety" (the opposite of drag racing). You can really feel the extra drag when you lift at speed with the windows open. But the S197 body doesn't seem to catch as much air with the windows down as some of the older bodies (I could be wrong about that, though).Comment

Got any pictures of the 70 F100? My Dad had a Sport Custom with 390 and 3 speed with overdrive (Like a GV) said it got pretty good mileage until the OD went out, put a normal 3 speed in it. Then the motor went out in it and it had a I6 in it by the time I saw it. Was going to be my 1st car, but lost in a barn fireOriginally posted by The Outsider View PostYep. I've also got Papa Outsider's old '70 F100 and a GMC M211 . . . both with barn door aero . . . and fuel consumption to match.

No photos scanned. It's not much to see . . . just a ratty old farm truck (Custom trim level LWB . . . set up pre-runner style on 16s) with a 302/automatic . . . I got a BW T-18 transmission set up for it off of another '70 (no overdrive, though), but I've never put it in. Need to weld in a new driver's side floor pan . . . .Comment

wind noise in modern cars is nothing compared to older junk... should say something. The window openings are smaller too a lot of times, they can make steel lighter than glass.Originally posted by The Outsider View PostI very seldom run windows down for that reason.
