Terry's putting in the 327 last time we talked - I need to call the ol' boy. He hasn't called me to come over and help, even though I volunteered. Hey, he's smarter than he looks!

Just got back from Texas - funeral for the father-in-law (sad, but he was 97, almost 98), so I'll get back on the Mighty Six today. I have the cam about 1/2 out (hope that long thing will come out with the engine in the car. If not, I'll get out the snips), and the head should be done with it's refurb any day now (need to call him, too). Don't know how Dave's coming on the carb (someone else to call), and I need it to cut the hole in the hood. I wish the intake was on the passenger's side - that lump is going to be RIGHT in my line of sight. Oh, well, I can look to the right of the lump and follow the white line.

                Hope all are having fun

Dan, which hotel is the "host" hotel, or are they pretty much centrally located? I'm looking at driving out and spectating/volunteering for the event. The volunteer part is pretty much contingent upon being able to see the event.

Re: MAXTON,NC LSR 6WKS and counting

We (staff) generally stay at the Pine Acres Lodge in Laurinberg. Lots of the folks stay there. It's kind of a flea bag, but basically clean and quite large. Still, it does fill up sometimes. In the past, they haven't had ANY no-smoking, but they told me over the winter that they will be making one of the wings that way as an experiment. It's run by some old North Carolinians, and I think the concept of "not smoking" is a foreign one. Still, they are at least considering changing with the times. When I told 'em Keith had given it up, they looked shocked and I suspect that information was one more data point for them to do the no smoking thing. So if you're a smoker - no problem. If not - I take a big old jug of Febrese and squirt the whole room, which seems to help.

Alternatives - I've had pretty good luck with the Clinton Inn, but some of the folks have not. It's one of those old Holiday Inns with the front wall of each room glass and fiberglass panels. Some have complained about rowdy guests and so forth, with nothing done about it. And there's the typical assortment of Fairfield Inn type places that are pretty new. I'd avoid the Scotland Inn - pretty rough. I spent a week there one night, if you catch my drift.

As far as centrally located - Laurinberg is about 6 miles from the track, and all of the motels and virtually all of the restaurants are located there. Maxton is a bit closer, but it's VERY small and just has one soul food restaurant - no motels. So everything is within like a 10 mile radius. The track is at the Scotland County Airport. You may want to read the history on the website - it's pretty interesting. We have a pretty good food vendor at the track, and his prices are not stupidly inflated. We try to support Bill (the vendor) as well as we can - he's a good guy and has been pretty loyal to us. It's not always easy to get someone to come out to an airport in the middle of nowhere to cook for a crowd of unknown size, and he does pretty well. There is a Hardee's within like 3 miles if you're so inclined.

I have a job especially in mind for an early riser, and you'll be about as close to the action as you can get, and you'll be in contact with ALL the racers near the start line. If you have a CB, it would be great if you can bring it (gotta get me one of them!).

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Re: MAXTON,NC LSR 6WKS and counting

I would not recommend the Clinton Inn. Myself and a few other ECTA folks stayed there last year once, and we were kept away much of the night by folks partying in the parking lot. The staff at the motel did not seem very interested in settling things down. One night the fire alarm went off and the night clerk refused to call the fire department and got really upset when one of the guests called them.

The Comfort Inn is pretty good I stayed there many times. The Hampton Inn, from what I've heard, is also pretty good.

I've got a hand held CB, and could probably get my hands on regular one pretty easy. I'm a pretty early riser (not to look at, but I do get early). What would be the show up time? Thanks.

Joe, we were also there the night the fire alarm went off. Not a lot of fun. We figured it would be a long night when we rolled in at midnight and there was a parking lot full of jacked up donks on 24's and we could hear the dj before we turned off our car. Quite the family reunion they were having...

Let me know if you can't find anything, I got a double bed room booked at the holiday inn. Sleeping in the truck last year was nice for the first two days, the next two sucked :D
