    1989 Super Coupe

Well I got the SC moved to a friends house last night it is sitting under his carport. I am looking forward to seeing how I do at collision repair. This is what I have to start with. I wish I would have taken a couple shots of the inside it looks a 1000 times better than the out.

I really love those cars - I miss my '93 302/aod set up.

I look forward to see what your skills can do with this.

I was the last in a chain of parting out one of those a few years back - I unbolted the entire rear frame / suspension set up in the hopes of using it in something someday.... still sitting behind my shop.

It's not bad - really. Look under it carefully. If there's any bent frame components (even just a little) take it to a shop and have it pulled. I've been talked out of that twice and both times it came back to bite me in the butt. If there's no bent bits it's just a unbolt, straighten the minor bits, paint the replacements, and bolt it back together. I've seen and done much worse.

Remember, I'm here to do the paint as needed - no big deal.

Thanks Durocher but NY is a long way away. I found a 1993 N/A bird with a bad motor for $250 I am going to try to get it tomorrow. Its not the right color but its local so if it has all the parts I need I will get it then scrap it when done.

Got the 93 LX parts car, cost me 300 delivered. Did not have time to work on it instead me and Dad took a few more things off the 84 tbird I have had sitting around for about 12 years. Since I bought two cars this week I figured it was time to thin the flock.

                      Re: 1989 Super Coupe

Well its time to update this project. I have been working on it a couple hours a week when I can get a chance. So far I have taken off the crunched fender, bumper, and header panel. Today I changed the lower control arm and set the new fender and header panel on to see how much it was bent.

The big question is does this look like something I can pull out with a come-a-long or something that needs a Pro's attention. I don't care what it looks when the hood is open but I do want to be able to get the sheet metal to line up.

I would just try to pull it but I don't want to make it worse. I do have a parts car but cutting these parts out and welding back in would be a very big leap for me.

If I send it out to get fixed any guess what it will cost to get pulled.

                        Re: 1989 Super Coupe

Try pulling it. The worst that can happen is that you'll have to cut the old stuff off and graft in the stuff from the donor. It sounds worse than it really is. Just use the new parts that have to bolt to it (fender, etc.) as a template to align the structure before you weld it in. Done it a hundred times - not so hard. Really. But if the old stuff will pull - well, that's even easier. If the timing's right I may be able to come up and take a look.

I did a Jeep Cherokee that had about the same crunch (it rear ended a semi)..... I couldn't believe the amount of pull it took to get that sucker straight..... you'll save yourself a huge amount of grief if you take it to a frame alignment shop.... the jeep - I didn't care, so I used a forklift to... ummmm.... convince it to go back to right spot (ever seen a forklift with all 4 wheels off the ground? it's pretty cool when you're not on it). ;D

We used to do a lot of rebuilds - in my opinion you would be much better off taking it to a frame shop - unless you really want to learn how to do it yourself. That repair should be around $2-400, and you won't have to worry about getting everything to line up in the end.
                              Still plays with trucks....
