I have more pretty pieces stashed.......bet you'd like a picture of them all on the car?
Actually, that's something I'd like to see too!
Another important thing to remember on rating numbers for engines in this time period was the mandated change for the OEMs to rate power as net instead of gross. What this meant was that the engines had to be rated as measured fully dressed running all accessories, as they would be installed in the vehicles. Prior to the change they were rated fully stripped. Big difference.Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.Comment

Carb? Where I'm going I don't need no stink'in carb! EFI and a big turbo! It'd make the 5,000+lb tank move real nice I'm sure. And it'll run on 4-cylinders cruising down the highway. This is a long long off project though. I have to get through a '69 Firebird with a straight six and a turbo, and a body work, paint and stroker engine rebuild on a '67 Thunderbird with an FE engine first. Then I can do body work and engine stuff with the Centurion.Originally posted by Deaf Bob View PostYou WILL like the torque...especially if you raise the carb either with an adaptor or manifold... Dunno about this 4-6-8 thingy
But a 500 with a Holley 950 DP and adaptor made the 65 skylark lift it's l.front wheel...
If you look at the intake of the motors.. The charge has to go up into the heads...Escaped on a technicality.Comment

there you are wrong, I like seeing them off the car so when the trade happens with the Austin I can get some Caddy parts thrown in as well... if you put them on the car, they're both used and Ford parts - either of which would just kill it for meOriginally posted by STINEY View PostI have more pretty pieces stashed.......bet you'd like a picture of them all on the car?

LOL......you are the second guy in 2 days to tell me they morph into Ford parts once installed......his angle was they acquire some beneficial mystical awesome metalurgy from prolonged contact with Ford sheetmetal.Originally posted by SuperBuickGuy View Postthere you are wrong, I like seeing them off the car so when the trade happens with the Austin I can get some Caddy parts thrown in as well... if you put them on the car, they're both used and Ford parts - either of which would just kill it for me
Trade..I thought you decided to keep the Vette? Great, I shaved my chest for nothing when I read you were keeping it......
Seriously, you kept the Cadillac stuff when you sold the truck? For some reason I thought you purged the 500 stuff?Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.Comment

Do it right and use Ford parts in the first place.Originally posted by STINEY View PostLOL......you are the second guy in 2 days to tell me they morph into Ford parts once installed......his angle was they acquire some beneficial mystical awesome metalurgy from prolonged contact with Ford sheetmetal.
Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

2- 500 caddies, one from Eldo.. Other from Sedan de Ville, one 472...
Tried to put a manual behind the Eldo motor, none of my bell housings would work.. All were early BOP style.. Pressure plate, flywheel problems plus the center hole was too small for my flatbed tranny.Last edited by Deaf Bob; June 6, 2012, 12:03 PM.Comment

You found somebody who has an Austin to trade for the Vette?Originally posted by SuperBuickGuy View Postthere you are wrong, I like seeing them off the car so when the trade happens with the Austin I can get some Caddy parts thrown in as well... if you put them on the car, they're both used and Ford parts - either of which would just kill it for me

Since Cadillac never put a standard trans with these engine, none of the cranks were machined/drilled for a pilot. It can be done, relatively easy with the engine assembled.Originally posted by Deaf Bob View PostTried to put a manual behind the Eldo motor, none of my bell housings would work.. Flywheels are a little trickier.
Another reason (other than nobody wanted a luxury car with a stick) was that input shafts have a rough life behind the torque of the big cadillacs. Unless you take it easy, they tend to destruct. Who wants to take it easy?
A fellow called "caddycarlo" used to have a neat tutorial on the net showing it.
Standard BOP bells have been used, just have to make allowances (grind) for starter pocket clearance.
Ummm.....different Austin species....Originally posted by 1946Austin View PostYou found somebody who has an Austin to trade for the Vette?
