The biggest problem with a tour going out west is the scarcity of two-lane back roads. It's so vast that interstates are about the only option.
My preference would be to start a tour in Washington State, and follow US 1 to San Diego. Traffic would make that a nightmare, though.Last edited by oletrux4evr; June 14, 2023, 05:56 PM.Ed, Mary, & 'Earl'

In the mid-eighties to mid-nineties I worked with a tight team of people...we spent 40 hrs a week together, partied, shared life, hiked and biked once in a while on the weekends. It was a great time, like you don't realize when you're in it. After the company got handed to the new generation who broke it all up, we all still spoke or visited once in a while forever after. Of perhaps eight people, four of those have died or been killed in accidents in the last year, the most recent on Friday (the memorial for the one prior is still a couple weeks away). In the couple years before that I lost three close family members, one in-law, and two old car-club buddies of the type who would travel hundreds of miles to get together still. A distant family member was killed while shooting video of tree trimming a month or two ago. Jeez...
Partly age, partly coincidence. I'm trying to imagine how the oldest member of our little group is feeling right now...Be careful out there....Comment

I don't want to hi-jack this thread (too much) but I have been blessed with a group of people (friends) that I have met on this board and shared a great deal of experiences with. As we get older it appears that we lose more people than we gain in our inner circle. I miss many and hope that I get the opportunity to share more times together before I can't.Comment

Most of my inner circle pasted in that sand pit war . I work odd hours so it is very hard to be out and about with the living .Originally posted by cstmwgn View PostI don't want to hi-jack this thread (too much) but I have been blessed with a group of people (friends) that I have met on this board and shared a great deal of experiences with. When I do goto an event my introverted self doesn't talk much so.

There are many curvy, hilly roads from the Olympia peninsula to North CA.Originally posted by oletrux4evr View PostThe biggest problem with a tour going out west is the scarcity of two-lane back roads. It's so vast that interstates are about the only option.

I am roughly 45 minutes either way to the coast. Used to take 1-1/2 hrs to go either way but the State straightened most of the roads.
lots of back roads.
Many of the side roads used to be small family owned sawmill towns.
Yes! 101 does get very busy.
Dad hauled Chips from Newport to Coos Bay on 101, Summer months it was graveyard hours. Just too much traffic
I hauled 2 derby cars on a big trailer down I-5 to the Redwood Highway towards Crescent City in N. Cali. That was a very beautiful drive.
I always wanted to ride a Gold Wing from WA to N. CA Now at almost 70 and wife refuses to ride with me, a car would be great.

There isn't a rule that the tour has to run through 4 states , on the west coast they could make it 4 or 5 coastal town, beaches with a few other things to see .Originally posted by oletrux4evr View PostThe biggest problem with a tour going out west is the scarcity of two-lane back roads. I think if they shorten the daily drives it allow more sight seeing of the area back roads and less of a need to rush.
This also help the vehicles not set up to run 65 to 80 mph go on the tour. When was the last time a stock 20s or 30s ,40s car tried it?
Heck even most muscle cars are not happy running 75 plus for long stretches .Last edited by 2020 mustang; July 19, 2023, 08:54 PM.Comment
