Just a bit of update on the happenings out here in the land of eternal sunshine and oppressive heat. Just in case you're interested...if not...well, don't read it!
I've been swamped with job hopping and home maintenance since I retired. I've been with my current company 3 years and it has been great but it leaves little time to peruse forums and play with cars.
As for the Ol' Plymouth, she's DOA. I was in the process of repairing all of the rust when, after I took it on a short drive to keep things moving, it started to run like crap and I lost 30lbs of oil pressure. I pulled the intake, valve covers and did some internal inspections with a scope. The oil and filter have tell-tale signs of bearing material and there is evidence of a wiped cam. I did a compression test and found a substantial pressure difference in 3 of the cylinders. So, the engine is hurt and with the rising cost of everything, there is no money in the budget to do anything with it. It's just sitting now, waiting for me to do something with it. I considered just cutting my losses and selling it for what I could get but, since old cars are so ridiculously priced now, I may as well hold on to it. If I did let it go, I can guarantee that I will never be able to replace it with something nicer.
I do have an old mini truck someone is interested in trading for a running RV 440 but he was injured on the job recently so that is on the back burner.
Anyway, that is some of the latest and greatest from Southern Arizona.
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
you know the best part about keeping it? knowing that there is some ninny out there complaining about "that car the guy won't sell because he's going to fix it someday".... to put piss in their porridge is an admirable trait and to have yet another doing so.... you, sir, are winning
