Interested in the 250 when you get it out. It might have a forged crank.

Cool that my old Rochester will go on to live a new life. What will you do about the tires? I'm seeing one set of big meats and 2 sets of wheels.

I am around Boston, and if you saw it you drove by my house. It lives behind Brutus the wrecker in my driveway.

Dan it is a 292 in Brutus, not sure if the cranks interchange. If they do, you are welcome to the motor when it comes out. The wheels and tires from Goliath are on Brutus. Goliath will need new shoes from the new owner.

I don't think that's a 292, Brian. It seems to have a front distributor (like my 250) and 292's have 'em in the middle. The fuel pump and distributor are switched (I always wondered why GM did that). In the pics I couldn't get a good look at the side covers but the 292 has about 7" sidecovers and the 250s are about 5". If I'm looking at the pics right that's a 250. This may explain why it's so sluggish.

Dan both the motor in Goliath and Brutus are exactly the same (tall side plates) dist moved to the front. Here's a factory illustration of a 292 with the dist up front. Both trucks claim to have the original engines and a 250 was not optional equipment in the medium duty stuff.

Interesting! I wonder when they moved the dist? The pic you sent clearly is a tall deck w/front dist.

Nope - the crank won't help. The arm is too long and would take me out of "E" engine class. But John (Milner) might could use it.

Awesome that you are volunteering to randomly show up at my house and measure my truck, but I'll take care of it.

I have two blocks cranks, etc, for 292.... I am pretty sure last I check one of the blocks is already +.060 - which is why I sent poor Seth to fetch the other 292 which I think is still standard. Been a long time since I looked at this stuff - hope to get back to it this winter.

After you pull the sixer from Brutus, are you going to do a tear down? It would obviously happen after the big block was situated and happy, but I was just curious to see/hear what kind of shape it was in.

It would be interesting, and I probably should before I sell it to determine if the coolant running down the side of the block is coming from a barfed head gasket or a crack in the block itself.

The thing really does run nice. A powerless kind of nice, but nice all the same.
