There is a wild fire about 25 north of Ely right now that was started as a controlled burn by the forestry service and now is several times larger and out of control. Started a week and a half ago. Fortunately there isn't much around there structure wise.

Man, what a crappy deal - all those homes being burnt up and families with no place to go. The rest of you BSers hang in there!www.realtuners.com - catch the RealTuners Radio Podcast on Youtube, Facebook, iTunes, and anywhere else podcasts are distributed!Comment

Yeah, it's a mess. There is a lot to it, and the drought and hot spell aren't helping things. We had a similar situation here last year, and we didn't even have any logging issues to blame. Hang in there guys, help each other out as much as you can, and you'll get thru it.My fabulous web page

My daughter and her friend went and bought several boxes of popsicles ..... we have a baseball tournament going on at Columbine HS this weekend. The kids are going up there and sell the popsicles for $2 each and then they are giving the money to red cross, etc. I told them at the end of the weekend, I'll buy all that are left from them .....
Kids these days!.... How in the world did a 12 and a 10 year old figure this out ..... bless their hearts!Whiskey for my men ... and beer for their horses!Comment

Maybe so....Originally posted by squirrel View PostIn Ely they have to wait until it stops snowing....
Here in OR they burn in the spring after lots of rain over winter... Middle of piles are dry, once they are lit, they burn rather hot and quick.... Using that logic... It makes no sense to me..Comment

I always chuckle when I hear the term "controlled burn" because it's an oxymoron.Originally posted by TheSilverBuick View PostThere is a wild fire about 25 north of Ely right now that was started as a controlled burn by the forestry service and now is several times larger and out of control. Around here they decided to call them "prescribed burns" because someone finally figured that out.My fabulous web page

I haven't seen anything bigger than the C-130's hitting the fire on the news. I'm wondering why they havent brought out the big boys for this one yet, the DC-10's and 747's.
They waited here on the Station Fire and a lot of homes paid the price. I've never understood why they wait until is giant and out of control to bring out the big guns. As a governor, I would've been screaming for those a week ago.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

Bam - Give those sweet kids a hug from Grandpa Dan! Just about the time you figure the world is going to Hell in a handbasket kids like this turn up and make it all better. Do they have any sugar-free? I'll take a dozen.Originally posted by Bamfster View PostMy daughter and her friend went and bought several boxes of popsicles ..... we have a baseball tournament going on at Columbine HS this weekend.
