The trip to Atlanta and back today to get Amos was a safe one and about as uneventful of a trip through Atlanta as any one can be. Only three wreck scenes along the way.
And like Matt pointed out, it's 90 mph or none. When it gets dangerous to (for) me is when you're droning along doing 87 in a 55, running with traffic, cars on both doors, been doing it for over an hour, and all of a sudden you see brake lights, lots of them.
My brain, at least, gets to daydreaming after a while. Drone, drone drone, drive drive, and then brake lights. After a couple hours of driving in a straight line like that, the brakes lights kinda seem surreal.
It takes my brain entirely too long, probably a second or two to realize - hey, everybody's stopping, like NOW. Too long, too much brain fade. So I gather it in and know we're okay, but then the drama starts. Forget the windshield - look in the mirror. Will everybody ELSE be paying enough attention to stop?
There's nothing you can do about it whichever way, the cars behind you when you've already got cars on both doors. All you can do is watch. And hope.
