Well - I had some wheels and tires listed on eBay, local pick up only.
A guy hit the buy it now button - I was elated.
Then I saw he lived in California.
Then he asked about shipping.
Well, originally I was thinking of getting a crate from work or building one and sending them truck freight.
Then the shipping / receiving folks at work suggested a heavy layer of cardboard on the wheel side, and a heavy coat of shrink wrap - with a shipping label on each wheel.
Should be light enough to go FedEx Ground.
