Just a little bit. I prefer the same brand engine in the same brand (or corporation) vehicle but I'm not married to the idea. Hence, a M-B Diesel in an S-10! And of course a BBB in anything is OK, and so is a Hemi. Maybe a 500 Caddy....... But I digress (usually). I like some sidewall on my tires but they don't have to be 14s or anything - 18s usually look OK on most cars.

Been accused of being a purist because of my rabid devotion to the Pontiac engine, but Im not really a purist. I modify everything, make it go faster, and chalk mark restorations are BOOOOOOORING! Yawn inducing skinny tired cars with factory this and that. Who cares. I get irritable when someone stuffs a 350 chevy where a 400, 428 or 455 was, mainly because the Pontiac is the better engine. If it had a 301, then stuff a 400 or bigger in it, not a silly orange leaky lump that needs the aftermarket to hang.

Im not into wheels larger than 17", but sometimes an 18" is ok, but larger is just fugly. Its rare that I will paint something the original color, but when I do its because I like the color or I am trying to make the car blend in a bit more. There is one numbers matching old car in my collection, and it is a unique and very rare one as it is 1 of 276 and has no paint code due to being special ordered. Its a factory freak, and that alone makes it cool but then consider it is a round port 455 HO F body, and it gets really cool. It will get rebuilt, but not a chalk mark factory correct build, and it wont be stock, but all the original pieces I have now will go back on it.

If its not an old Pontiac, then I dont care what it has under the hood, but if I see an orange thing under there, I lose interest really fast. I dont mind Oldsmobiles, Buicks or Caddys in an old Pontiac, just why hose it with one of the taxi cab engines?

I think we have been down this road before, engine cross breeding? As long as it's not a GM into Ford ,MOPAR or AMC I dont care.
There is a guy who used to show up at Fun Ford Dallas with a 460 (Ford) powered Firebird,I thought that was great. The LS into everything,I'm sick of that. I wish I didnt have 18's on my 68 Mustang, but its tough to get a 27" tall 17 thats not 12" wide, and I need at least a 17 to clear my brakes.
I also walk a fine line about cutting up the lines on early sheet metal, but I have lengthened my Comet wheel wells 3" so I could put a 275/60 15 in the wheel wells.
I'll cut a hole in the hood in a secound for the correct scoop as long as the air cleaner ends up visable in the opening.

I stand in awe at a 100% BOSS 429 ,Z28,AMX,HEMI CUDA ,but a BOSS 302, SS Camaro,Chevelle,340 CUDA just seems like a wasted car if its not being driven.

A recent discussion has me wondering this. How many people on here are or would consider themselves purists? Someone who thinks muscle cars should only have 14" and 15" factory sized wheels. That cross-brand engine swaps are not ok. That altering the shape and style of a 'classic' body is a no-no. That you must keep the 50 year old suspension design and geometry that's trying to kill you.
Your definition of "purist" doesn't seem to match your examples.

I've been down that road........I most enjoy what I've got now.
It's what we did as teenagers back in the day.

I'm not a big fan of the larger than life wheel/tire combo......I like to
            see some sidewall.

I'm not for different-brand engine swaps unless it makes sense...ie. the LS Fairmont. It's one thing if you're blatantly kitbashing something together, but it's not for me. After that, I usually own cars nobody else (purists or otherwise) would care anything about, so it's free reign for me.

That being said, I can't wait to hear some Mopar guy bitch at me because I shitcanned a factory-recall EFI system.

I hate cutting up museum level original cars, but after that anything goes, especially if it makes it go faster, handle better, and look cooler.

                    First, not my definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purist

Second, how are my examples not inline with the definition of purist? A purist, in the automotive sense, is someone who doesn't like change and fights to keep thing stock or 'the way things were'.

Agreed. I'm a "work with what I got/can afford" kind of guy. That usually means either boring cookie cutter stuff, or I go shopping for something off the beaten path that I can chop up a bit.

hmmm... I wonder if I'm a purist - I wear my "NCRS" shirt most every time I go to the Corvette store.....

*did I mention that NCRS is defined on the back as "not correctly restored stingray"?

My mustang WAS one of a handful when new. But when I bought it the interior was Mis matched and its but ugly tan. Now it's one of one. I'm building it the way I want it. Nobody has come knocking on my door because they want a dessert tan ttop mustang.
