not sure what week it was in basic. It was starting to get very quiet.
I started singing this, not even a favorite song.. Just popped into my head.
Good songs do.
Expecting the drill instructor to start yelling over the intercom. He let it go.
pretty late at night.
I did yell cadence.. I think he knew it was me.

it seems songs of the north are deeper voice, encrypted.. more gothic.
then the weather gets warmer, and voices change. tough is an act.
more people watch that instead.

Billy Joel. Not quite the rocker, certainly not blues. This stuff ...I like the words to songs. If I can't understand the words, I'm not interested in the song, no matter the noise going on behind or in front the vocals. Billy Joel did it right.
Billy Joel was an enigma back in his day, he made his living making music with words that contradicted the very industry he was involved in. Like he resented what he was doing, if you diagnose the words. Good stuff, great to listen to. But, how did they let him do it, the recording industry?
He was originally an amateur boxer and he musta not got beaten up so bad that he was able to decide that's not the path, maybe music instead.
A case in point, the song "The Entertainer." My favorite verse, but I like all of the verses in the whole song:
I am the entertainer
I come to do my show
You've heard my latest record
It's been on the radio
Ah, it took me years to write it
They were the best years of my life
It was a beautiful song
But it ran too long
If you're gonna have a hit
You gotta make it fit
So they cut it down to 3:05
