  • car storage, I hate mieces to pieces

Best stuff to put around vehicle to keep them from thinking "this be a good new home"..
I know mothballs, think somewhere I read dryer sheets.. anything else..??
Normally don't have any issues,, but because this one will be in one of those tent garages all winter, I'd rather do everything I can to make the biggest not welcome sign/statement I can

    Regular servings of cat food?

May lead to being home for wayward cats though.

uuuggg,, wife feeds every cat that "looks" starved that shows up at our door, and most likely why I don't have much of an issue.. but my pride and joy will be in that tent this winter so I can keep working in c-10 so I make the power tour.. and rather not chance it.. wife just spent the money for the slab for that tent garage.. so it'll be on 8"x16" bricks until next spring and I can do it.. unless I sell the bbc.. and then just need it warm enough to pore

Move the cat food to the storage tent. I haven't heard mice or squirrels in the roof ever since my volunteer cat showed up. If you feed them, they won't leave... and they kill rats for fun. I'm not much on rodents, I have a special food blend for them too.

          Dryer sheets huh?

I believe Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson have a cure - but you might end up with holes in your car. If one of the mice is wearing red and white polka dot shorts, keep it for ransom. He's worth some big $$.

But seriously, good luck with this. It's always a PITA.

I bait my barns and cars down good twice a year (when the crops go in, and when they come off - that's when the mice "migrate") I use TOMCAT brand poison in the pellet form. $25 for a bucket with about 30 individual pouches of the stuff.....tear a little opening in the bag and put it under a seat or in the trunk, and put some in around the building too. I check them in a few days and they are always empty, just set out some more at that point. Usually the second batch sticks around until the next season change when the whole scenario repeats. I use it in the attic and basement and under the floors of our old farmhouse too.

Go on YouTube and look for the bucket mouse trap. You make it yourself. Then put the car on jack stands and be creative with some thin gage wire hooked to a electri fence juice box. Cats are great also but you need to keep them a little hungry. I feed mine at nightbso he'll hunt during the day.

Some great pictures of why one particular repellent idea doesn't work on another forum:

He'd heard Irish Spring soap kept mice away. Well...

At least the mice smelled good.

And some good suggestions in that thread, too.

I use irish spring in my campers and my cars, and it works pretty good, but it needs to be fresh. If I don't change it out at least once per year, they eat it instead of run from it.

Also, I make poison stations that are very effective. I use 1.5" pvc pipe, in an upside down T, about 2' tall and 1.5' wide. I set them along the walls inside and outside, so the mice can find their way into them. I fill the verticle tube with Tomcat bricks, so they have to go into the lower tube to get at the food. As they eat it, more keeps dropping down for them to eat. Unlike the pellets, they can't haul it into the cars and make a mess. Plus dogs and cats can't get at it. One fill lasts a year.

I use the cheap fresheners from carquesr that come in small cans, they really smell pungent. Also yooper buckets kill them by the hundreds. I use dryer sheets too, which reminds me I need more for the Formula.

Five gallon bucket with two gallons of waste oil in it. String safety wire between the handles with a pop can in the center. Smear peanut butter on the can and provide a small ramp so they can reach the top. Oil keeps them from smelling as bad as water does and it doesn't freeze.

I didn't even think about the freezing water issue. Usually had used just a splash of ATF or motor oil to keep the smell away.
                          Escaped on a technicality.
