    Moving along on the project:

Currently on a parts hold for getting the engine back together, but moving forward.

Asking AI to help me with valve cover color choice.

On the stand I like the black better. In the car I think the silver looks a bit better.

Just because it's artificial, doesn't mean it's smarter. I agree with you, silver looks better in the car.

Thanks for all the great pics.

Oh no, not asking what it thinks is better. Asking it to generate the different images so we can decide what looks better :-P

Color matched valve covers is also an option:

So good to hear from you again! I'm goofy for interesting engine swaps so I'm lovin' these builds. Always wanted to build an early 1930's Packard street rod with a Packard V8 but probably not an Ultramatic.

Timing guides have arrived. Now that the crank can turnover the cams I've mounted a degree wheel to the crank. Set true TDC by way of piston stop and double marks. Rigged up a dial indicator to the lifter face, as janky as it looks it's giving repeatable results. The timing blocks are to set cam timing and lock them in place during assembly.

                The measured findings are:

                B1 Intake: 2.5⁰ ATDC / 31.5⁰ ABDC @ 0.040" = 209⁰
                B1 Exhaust: 36.5⁰ BBDC / 11⁰ BTDC @ 0.040" = 205.5⁰
                B1 107⁰ ICL / 114⁰ ECL - 110⁰ LSA

                B2 Intake : 2.5⁰ ATDC - 31⁰ ABDC @ 0.040" = 208.5⁰
                B2 Exhaust : 36⁰ BBDC - 11⁰ BTDC @ 0.040" = 205⁰
                B2 107.5⁰ ICL / 113.5⁰ ECL - 110⁰ LSA

Published specs for the engine the cams came from are: 211⁰/207⁰ @ 1mm : 110⁰ ICL - 108⁰ ECL/109⁰ LSA

                I've set them up for 106⁰ ICL - 108⁰ ECL/107⁰ LSA

                Then started painted stuffs:

Testing silver valve covers first, I like it way more in person than in the renderings. We'll start here and can always change them later.

How do you deal with metric degrees when setting up the cam? (insert smiley face emoji here)

                        O.E flywheel:

                        Aluminum lightweight flywheel:

Sorting out the ignition coil wiring. VAG 'R8' ignition coils. Cloth wrapped guitar speaker cable with two 16ga wires through it, one for coil +12v and the other for +5v coil trigger. Then the coils will ground on the cylinder head near their mounting.

The B1 +12v wires and B2 +12v wires are run through the speaker cable out the distributor caps coil terminal. The trigger wires are paired together for waste spark.

Gutting a canister coil to run the B1 & B2 power feed into, I can hide a pair of electrical noise filtering capacitors in the coil housing and the run the power wires to the terminals in the coil.
