Comp Cam and kit installed without any problems . This LSM Racing valve spring compressor is the cat's ass . Worked awesome , it cost quite a bit more than others but it's built like a tank. I compared the old cam to an old SB cam and what a difference in cam journal size . Now to make it pretty.

      • I can't understand why Cougars aren't more popular, I've always thought they were very attractive cars.
I think lots of cougars were ordered with less than attractive colors and options, but so were mustangs, and any other car back in the late 60's.
The 69 and later Cougars did get a bit heavy looking, but still looked fantastic in the 'Eliminator' trim with the high impact colors.

        Thanks for the updates!

        • A friend of mine has had a red 69 cougar convertible, 351w 4spd since highschool. I have always liked the 60's cougars. Once they hit the styling trends of the 70's land yachts, they lost me.
I think you're doing an amazing job with this one - what are those cam specs?

I have to admit I feel a bit foolish for running the old alphabet roller cams in the 302s I've built lately - but they do work OK I guess.
There's always something new to learn.

            • What size engine again? That cam is very similar to the one I run in my Skylark at 462cid. Mine is 218/220 @ .050" ~0.560" lift and 116 LSA. I like how the engine runs. Pulls a ton of vacuum, plenty of torque and seems to pull quite well to 6,000rpm.
              Escaped on a technicality.

                      • I've pulled the fenders and hood off so that I can spray the engine compartment semi-gloss black . The engine is all back together after the cam change and sprayed with a ceramic engine enamel . I also spent a few $ on a TCI convertor 2400-2800 stall . This convertor should work out just fine with the Comp Cam .

                            • My whole plan was to have this car painted by the end of summer. So far everything is going to plan . I should have it sprayed within the next couple of weeks . I'm really looking forward to putting this cat back together . Once it's painted I can put the engine and trans back in , that's why I decided to purchase the TCI convertor now . I thought about going with the stock convertor and seeing if it liked the cam but then thought differently . I've got a garage full of parts that need to find there way home . I've spent a few $ lately on parts and tools and I need to settle down and get to work . That's not to say that I haven't been putting in garage time , I have been . It's just time to empty these parts shelves and pay down the Visa .
