I bolted it all together and fired her up and it sounds wonderful :D So no lasting or permanent destruction. I bolted the cracked shaft back in place until the replacement arrives. The crack is on the bottom side of where the second bolt bolts on. Now that all the bolts are the correct length the shaft shouldn't be flexing like it was, and with a bolt right on top of it and the relatively low lift it should be alright to cruise around town until the new one shows.

Wow....the lifter didn't fall out did it?

I try to always use the original bolts for stuff like that...for that reason....

Apparently not, I could feel the lifter cup when I was putting the push rod back in, and now I have about 15 minutes of running time on it and it's running as good as before. The 6AL-2 just showed up a half hour ago, I might have a different project tomorrow ;D

I've been working on the POS trailer today, so I'll update that one later.

Every bump you hit is smoother sailing for me!

On a side note, did you re-use your oil pickup or did you buy an new one. TA says they're backordered till 2011 (joking) and I was hoping to have this engine together either this weekend or next. :'(

My pickup was full of shavings and the screen had caved in.

Drove it around quite a bit today and all seems to be in order and sounds good ;D Still putting a smile on my face. I think I'm going to put the 6AL-2 box on tomorrow.

I used my old pick up. I gave it a huge brake cleaner flushing before I installed it as it did have good sized chunks of metal go through the bypass prior to the latest rebuild.

                  Yeah Ouch!

I was cleaning house yesterday and ran across this picture, sorry about the quality, it's a picture of a picture :P
This was probably taken in '96 or very early '97, shortly after I started driving. Got to love the white walls :P But at least it's one color :P

Then this morning I hooked up the 6AL-2 and did some grinding on the center piece of the curve kit that was in the distributor. It was only giving me 10* of mechanical advance :'( Now it's a much more respectable 20*, so I have it set at 15* initial with 35* total. Took it out for a test run and it's idling a bit smoother and definately revving better. Not really sure which to attribute both those to, but I'm guessing a little of both.

Hey, they put the label on upside down :P

Hmm, funny thing I found today. Thought I'd take a look at the plugs to see how they looked and what do I find? Every single spark plug is loose. As in not just finger tight loose, but wiggling with the spark plug wire attached loose :o The engine was pretty much warmed up when I was checking them, and near as I can remember I never actually torqued them when I put them in finger tight when on the engine stand.

All the plugs looked good and are now tight ;D So no worries, and I think it's great how easy all the plugs are to get at, even with the evaporator box.

Or was it a loose nut between the steering wheel and brake pedal?

No kidding! I double checked them after bleeding the brakes last time.

I've officially rubbed a hole in one of the exhaust flex pipes. Suddenly got a little more "barky" pulling into my driveway :P I'll pick up a new length of pipe tomorrow.
