    I have Building

The longest part of the entire project is getting the part when you see dirt.... so here's dirt, imagine a 30x36 shop with 10' car ports on either side... in 30 days, there will be no need to imagine.

That forest looks like something out of Harry and the F'n Hendersons.
      Holy crapola.

That shop is going to be killer.

          ROUS's? I don't believe they exist.

Great spot for a shop though. I'm very jealous

nicely done - and those big pieces of equipment don't run cheap!

Wow - where do you live? It looks like part tropical rain forest and part giant redwoods... wow.

Safe to say you'll have plenty of shade! Are you going with standing seam metal roofing? You might have issues with moss and the like on shingles in a shaded environment like that.

            Wow - what a beautiful spot - you're a lucky man!

Your shop should be nice and secluded ...

                Re: I have dirt

I live near Seattle, thus the reason why the permit was a challenge - I live on a creek (although it could have been lots worse).
The huge trees cedars, they grow like weeds here. Some of those trees are 8 feet or larger in diameter.
I never thought of Princess Bride when I bought the place, but I certainly will from now on.
Wish those were my equipment.... It'd make cleaning up so much easier. In 2006, we had a windstorm that knocked down 30 or more trees and damaged many of the other trees (except the cedars it appears) so cleanup has been an on-going issue.
Nice thing about where the shop is - I live at the end of the road and the shop is below road level and completely hidden from any prying eyes

Sweet - my shop is on a semi busy street - and I'm always paranoid about leaving the doors open, especially with a car up on the lift.

you have a gorgeous spot there my friend!

                      Re: I have dirt

You know it's too small, right? Of course, however big it is it will be too small! I have 30x40 - seemed like a dream shop when I was planning it - but it's too small, too. Still, it works pretty well. I'm looking forward to getting a storage loft installed in mine to get the junk off the floor and regain my car space - do that if you can. I suggest you go 12 feet at the eves so you'll have room for a hoist. It might not be in the plans for now but may look REALLY good as you get older (like me). It also makes room for the loft if you want it, especially if you have open trusses (my shop is all steel). The taller eves don't cost much as you're building but are hard to live without if you decide you need 'em.

I'm really happy for you. In my life, getting a nice shop has been a MAJOR event. Have fun, be safe, build cool stuff.

Nice spot. Keep the pictures rolling. I hope to start my clearing this summer for a shop. Only I just have to pluck out a few small juniper trees with a backhoe and level some dirt.
                        Escaped on a technicality.

I went with 14' eaves for that very reason, the inside will have loft over about 1/2 of the space.
I also plan on lean-tos on either side of the shop so the effective covered space is 50 x 36. I figured a smaller enclosed space would be easier to heat.
And eventually that bank will have a building on the top of it as office or entertainment space... but that's after I expand the garage attached to the house to a 3 car garage with a large media room.

Also on the forest note, my dad gave me advice that has paid huge dividends. He said find a house your wife likes, you can always remodel to make it useful to you. I could have bought a house with all the amenities that I was seeking (meaning shop larger then house)... but none of them did my fiance think was a nice place; this place didn't have the shop but has: the Princess Bride landscape, large creek (40' across), and solitude yet 30 minute commute to Seattle, huge new kitchen, and remodelled upstairs thus she loves this house... trust me on this, it's worth it.

Sounds like you have it covered. Let me add to your general advise on home buying. Another trick I learned the hard way - buy a house that will support a driveway to the back yard. Seems obvious but it's easy to overlook and then yer screwed if you want to build a shop - no way to get to it. Had a nice house in a sub and the by-laws would have allowed a small shop (like, 20x20, plus the attached 2 car) in the back yard but....... Learn from my example (he says, holding the bars of his cell). That was a whole wife ago.

What is a half-wife? Is that like factional ownership? My ex-wife believed in that... me, not so much.

True point about the making sure the driveway would work. I have 3 acres; potential of use of 93 acres and it was a siting nightmare to come up with a spot to put the shop. I wanted the 30x42 or even the 42x56 - but I didn't have the spot for it... again, those cedar trees are nice; however, cutting a 120 year old tree down would take more work then I (a lawyer) would ever want to undertake....
