first time I've had this problem - but the cracked block that happened early might have driven a nail into these heads... it seemed to get air trapped - which would create hotspots.... so who knows.... the lesson in all of this is don't cheap out. I'll probably build a 383 at some point with all my 'spare' parts because eventually, I'm sure, this motor will go - looking at cylinder 6, it has some scoring from the overheat....Doing it all wrong since 1966 -
new heads arrived today

other head is about off.... figure Sunday will be its day to be a runner again

time to remove the other head

and the hits keep coming... the bushing fell out of the bottom of this aftermarket column - but that wasn't the worse thing somehow the lower borgeson joint now rattles side to side. I didn't think it was possible... but it is. dammit

back to removal

I'm really going to test these... one of the bolts... I won't say I can't - I can - but there is no way I'm pulling the head again to get the header out so that I can open up a hole - it leaked before...
fun part about this picture - it convinced me not to change headers... there's no real difference in port size

functionally the heads are the same - but they're not identical

see the almost cathedral look to the new heads? that ain't there on the old heads... good thing I didn't just buy one head

and back together.. new head gaskets

gave up when I came up missing a gasket... I'm sure I have it, but I've been working on it 12 hours at this point

one thing for certain - on anything I care about, I'm buying the gaskets individually.... the quality difference, even in the FelPro line, is quite remarkable

Summit screwed me - I always check where it's sent from, sometimes I can wait, others.... not so much... This time Summit claimed it was close.. it's in Ohio.

I have Kids......
I've been Lied Too Before.......
But it "STILL SUCKS DIRT" when its a
ADULT who is Hosing You for the Sale !!
Another experience is,
Half your order comes from the seller,
The other half that's "Not Quite in Inventory"
Is Direct Shipped By the Manufacturer and
Shows Up 10 Days Later with a Billing
Invoice for the Seller.......
Haven't had any threatening Bill Collector Letters Yet ....Comment
