I'm really sorry to hear it all didn't come together for you. After following along with your whole thread, the last week I've been checking for updates every chance I could. You get into these and it feels like i'm right there with you even being many miles south. Sorry again the stars didn't align, but like others have said you now have a year to test.

Notwithstanding no Drag Week this year, you've got to be pleased with how far you've brought this project along -- just sitting on the trailer its got "rocket ship" written all over it. And honestly, it will be a lot more fun at Drag Week next year when you've got the bugs worked out, a healthy boy (maybe riding in the jump seat) and minimal last-minute hassles to distract. It's been a heck of a year for you....YOU DONE GOOD!!!!!!Last edited by mlcraven; September 8, 2013, 08:20 PM.Michael from Hampton RoadsComment

Friday was an expensive day.
"new" ball joints in the new ebay tubular lower control arms were too loose to get a good alignment.
These arms follow the aftermarket tradition of using chrysler screw in upper ball joints in the lower arms...
New moog joints really didn't want to thread into the lowers... the guys worked on the front end of this car pretty much all day.
Finally at near 5pm they considered it "done - drive it over the weekend and come see us next week"
Well - it was great to drive the car for the first time.... but I have a lot of work yet to do - and the alignment shop will DEFINITELY see the car again - it's almost undrivable over 45mph... very "darty" a little input one way has you darting across the lane and fighting to put input back the other way... very unsettling - no way I would have lasted the first drive of dragweek like this. I'm not sure if it is a caster or toe issue... but they'll get the car back to try again.
Trans shifts, but I don't like it, and it still leaks.
no turn signals
no horn
no trunk latch (bungee)
hood latch is a pita
no interior to speak of.
I did a nice burn out last night - and will probably not touch the car for a few days... believe it or not - I'm sort of sick of it right now! There's always something new to learn.Comment

I know it seems like a lot of things against you and the Falcon right now, but after a break I'm sure you'll whittle the list down and start enjoying it. Always a process to fine tune a new build, and rarely do they just fire up and not have several changes needed. You'll get them worked out.Comment

Did they align the car to Falcon specs or Mustang II specs?
as for the first drives - as most of my cars, on their first drive, didn't have exhaust, interior, matching wheels, etc - I'd say yours was a success. Heck, my Corvette had a longer list and I re-engineered nothing at all.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

aligned to Mustang 2 specs and the car is just plain scary above 45 mph - I'll get it back to the alignment shop for what I think will be a caster adjustment. Unfortunately - with the upper control arm cross shaft being the only means of adjustment (for everything other than toe) - it's a tricky set up to get right. Get the two bolts too loose and one slip, you're starting all over again.Originally posted by SuperBuickGuy View PostDid they align the car to Falcon specs or Mustang II specs?

I've been wondering about that on my Spider - I've seen conversion kits that rotate the adjustment 90* then use shims... sounds like now would be a perfect time to do that....Originally posted by milner351 View Postaligned to Mustang 2 specs and the car is just plain scary above 45 mph - I'll get it back to the alignment shop for what I think will be a caster adjustment. A few pesky problems I'm looking for input on:
1. starter bendix stays engaged for a few seconds after the engine starts, sometimes longer than others, usually a blip of the throttle gets it to retract. Should I put a washer under each mounting bolt to space the starter back a bit? This is a modern gear reduction starter.
2. Idle is too high, no pcv, no vac advance (yet) all vac ports on carb plugged. I think the secondaries on the carb are open too far - is there a setting for how far open the secondaries should be or is the "only adjustable from underneath with the carb off the intake" throttle shaft stop adjustment on the passenger side only there to prevent the blades from getting stuck shut?
3. fuel spit back - is there a flapper that can be installed in the filler neck / hose / tank connection to prevent fuel spit back when filling - I can see this becoming a major PITA with the filler centered in the back of the car above the license plate, license plate light, etc.
4. horn - I have a new grant steering wheel mounting kit and horn button - they don't seem to go well together with the old superior three spoke foam grip wheel I was hoping to use on the new aftermarket GM style tilt column.
I'm about ready to put a horn button on the dash.
5. still no luck on the turn signals - how hard is it to pull the turn signal switch and wiring out of the column? There's always something new to learn.Comment
