    Fuel filler hose

    Howdy ya'll,

well I got my '96 Impala SS gas tank into the Riviera with a bit of frame rail notching, a hole for the fuel pump, and a creative crossmember for the straps. However for the filler neck I had to put a 90deg bend hose between the neck and the tank. To get it to work on the short term I cut a piece of 1 3/4in radiator hose to fit but I know its not a long term solution. I was thinking that a silicon rubber hose would be the way to go but I'd like your input, hose/fuel compatability is not an area of expertise.

    Thanks,

    Re: Fuel filler hose

Silicone is the last thing I'd use for fuel hose....

They sell filler hose at the parts store.

I'd make a piece of steel tube, using exhaust tubing bent with an exhaust pipe bender, with a short piece of filler hose at each end.

      Re: Fuel filler hose

all the fuel filler hose I've seen is straight and this is a 90 with like a 3-4in leg on either end including what is fitting over the nipple and filler necks so its tight in there.

Getting fuel into the tank with a sharp 90 degree bend will be fun.....

One of our converted Flatbed Ford trucks has a 90* bend in the filler neck, it isn't any fun to fill up. Have you tested how long the Radiator hose can be exposed to gas before falling apart?

            Re: Fuel filler hose

The stock Impala filler neck had a 70-90deg bend in it, it was just made out of steel and around 3-4in farther down the tube.

No I have not tested it, this thing isn't even done being wired yet. I had to take a break after working for around 4 days almost non stop. I just wanted to fill it up enough to break the engine in and get it out of the garage to do maintenance on my other vehicles.

Just about every Chevrolet/GMC side-saddle tank truck has a hose like what you're looking for on their gas tanks.

I don't think they racing hose is that red vinyl stuff - a fire waiting in search of wrong time to start

The good flex stuff is Tygon. I think McMaster offers it. We used it at EPA and it's OK for fuel - kinda like flexible glass.

ABS tank, galvanized steel filler neck. I really think I need a molded elbow but we'll see if I can find something from a box body C/K in the yard this weekend if things go well.

marine stores usually stock filler neck hose - I think the most common diameter is 1.5". It's very stiff wall, with a stainless wire in it.

It's not cheap since it's coast guard rated, but if you can't find it anywhere else - it sounds like a foot would be plenty for you and that's how they sell it off the roll by the foot.

I like the pipe idea with short hose connections on either end.
There's always something new to learn.
