Any day now, I have to submit my vacation for the year. Any suggestions as to where/when to go or do? I am not too good at "fun". I have been doing part of the tour last couple of years and taking off the first week of May. I am in Kansas near KC area. I SHOULD stay around home and do chores/home improvements. Where's the fun in that?

The Kansas State Pen is located in adjacent Lansing, KS..........that part of the state is the butt of many jokes..........but both towns are pretty nice, with great people.
Mary's brother was a teacher in Leavenworth High School for nearly his entire career. He used to tell people he was doing 30 to 40 years in Leavenworth......got a lot of odd looks.......hahahahaha.

Maybe its just my lack of knowledge regarding the area but other then the camaraderie of my power tour friends the route and area around the venue's doesn't seem to tourist friendly for things to do

I've been thinking the same thing. This will be a re-run this year.

I see the Corvette museum has been mentioned, across the road, the Corvette Assembly Plant has tours for $10 Adults or $16 Plant and Museum. You should get your tickets on their website, ahead of time especially with the NHRA RacersReunion and Power Tour in town on the same weekend. This is a very interesting 1 mile walking tour that will no longer be available after June 16th, 2017 (until further notice) so you would have to go on Friday. Tours start every 15 minutes and last about 1 hour. www.corvettemuseum.org/plant/tours/

I highly recommend the NHRA Racers Reunion (Saturday) @ Beech Bend Dragway, I go every year that it does not conflict with PT.
Last year we got to go on our way home from KC.

The Holiday in on Scottsville Rd near the airport is the Friday night hangout for the reunion crowd, burnouts encouraged!

Lost River Cave in Bowling Green KY.

Lost River Cave's historic underground boat tour is a great eco-adventure for all ages. Offering hiking trails, activities, and a charming gift shop. Just an hour north of Nashville and just south of Mammoth Cave National Park. Open all year.

The Corvette Plant Tour and museum are great.

Any more ideas for Indy or the other stops?

Yes, and with the 100th anniversary of the beginning of The Great War in 1914, there were several improvements done a few years ago. I highly recommend it.

I did a year at Leavenworth myself (with the Army) The town itself is very small...honestly not much to see there.

Granted I've only done one Tour, and maybe it's because I grew up in NE Missouri, but this year's route seems to be a bit of a yawn.

If this years route is as bad (or worse than) last year's route it could well be the that makes me stop doing PowerTour as last year's route was the worse I have been on in the 10 years I have been long hauling!

The best part of last years PT was driving through the MO/AR Ozark mountains after it was over, on the way home.. It looks like we will see plenty of corn fields this year.
