I read that too, I did not see 50w gear oil, at advance auto, so I got 50w, motor oil

I don't think 50w will be a problem. Warm it up on jackstands before a run, which will help all the drivetrain anyways, and it should shift fine.

I had writing a long responce but it timed out and lost it. First two passes I took it easy ran 125, 126 ran good. Third pass I went for it but it was breaking up went 135. Forth pass I short shifted to 136.29554

Need to figure out why it does not run right, and something happen to my clutch cable will no longer disengage

Not bad for a bunch of used parts slaped together by a hack. I think its got more in it. If it will make a clean pass. Need more $$$ and time.....

awesome! Did you get the talk about going over?

what did you use for ignition on the p-motor?

There is a 5 mph cushion, far as I know I did not upset anyone.

ignition: autolite plugs (764??) cheap accel sbc wires, used cap and rotor, reman 1985 dissy from rockauto, coil and duraspark II that came with the car could be circa 1979? There is only a little goo running out of the box what about the used carb and fuel filter they have only been sitting on the truck a few years. The fuel pump was the one that came on the capri, as well as the water pump. I can list the new parts much faster than the used ones.

anybody got a MSD 6L they want to get ride of?

Good deal on not getting yelled at. : )

I'd be thinking about a new coil maybe? Yall's neighborhood is kinda humid? It was the last time I was in Charlotte... just a thought. I used to have to change the coil on first turd vega about every 6 months and then figured out how to clean the contact where the coil wire went, constantly green. It'd start breaking up about 5k when it got in that state. Since I had to run it up to 5500-6000 all the time (15 years old and driving an 85 hp car), I spent a lot of time kissing the ignitions ass.

fwiw. I'm stoked it ran 136!

Thanks I am very pleased it did as well as it did but also a little disapointed b/c I did get a clean all out pass. That was with the direct drive fan still hooked up no, cardboard , and taller gear. It does have more cam and open long tubes. I am thinking about selling the SC and using the money to make it street legal.

A pat on the back for you for sure Russell.

                        Good job!

Throw some good ignition and fuel parts at that thing and look out.

I am getting a MSD 6al off of the corral. It is coming with a 7000 rpm limiter, Does that sound a little high to you for a stock bottom end, p head, e cam motor? I do not plan on waiting till it hits the limiter to shift no matter what rpm its set at.

What would you say the red line should be? What rpm would you normally shift?

My small block knowledge is a little rusty, but I seem to recall somewhere around a 6200 redline, shift at 55-5800, give or take a couple hundred rpm.
