What hit the oil filter something on the trailer or did something fly up and hit it. Cool start on a project. What are the future goals for it.

Doesn't look like a filter that popped. Looks like one that get by something.

You can get a remote kit and plumb it up high out of the way..
I agree that something hit the filter.. It should be bulged out.. Seen many front filters punctured.. That is punctured!

Snow, mud, 4wheel drive's the way to go! Even on sand dunes ..
A muddy hill, churning tires, throwing just the right amount of chunks off the tires.. Whoo! What a rush!
You have to really go get stuck in 2 wheel drive then shift into 4 to really appreciate the worthiness
            Knee deep mud! Mmmm

I third this....can we carry the motion forward?

Thanks Dan for the input... your advise is greatly appreciated, and based on your recommendation, I think we'll keep it gas for now and fix what we got... as for the oil filter, there is evidence of close proximity to other objects combined with a cheap a$$ oil filter and 50 PSI oil pressure... hopefully filter and fluid change will sort that one out... I'll let Sean add the details later...
as I had said before, something came into close proximity, so, the motion has been passed... How Ever, the inexpensive construction of the oil filter may have had something to do with it as well... we had it running for thirty minutes before it popped and most (myself included) have seen filters with a lot more damage not leak or burst. Sean and I are talking about a remote filter and fixing issues as they are discovered on this one. i'm sure there will be many...

Just use a shorty style filter...

I did some looking under the truck today to find out why the oil filter was hit and the driver side CV was broke...
Well I found out the front diff mounts where broke off.. (circled on reference pics)

So I went online looking for a diff for the truck and I found the rare 5 sp 4x4 iron diff and snatched it up because it was a stonger unit that was built for the driveline shock from manual trans, the auto trucks only came with an aluminum diff.

Spent some time after school today working on the front end off the truck. I ended up getting everything but the front diff pulled tonight. Tomorrow the iron front diff should be here and tonight I also ordered a ZR2 8.5 rear axle to replace the 7.625 that is presently in the truck
