So I have the Bamf-mobile up in the air .... one of the fuel pumps has sprung a leak. Went over it trying to see what needs attention/maint./etc. Kinda put together a list, and with the "new-business-start-up-not-a-ton-of-money" blues, any upgrades or changes need to be extremely budget friendly. So in no particular order, here is the short list that will happen:

    1. Swing-out side bars
    2. re-seal all interior body/floor seems and add sound/heat barrier (lizard skin perhaps)
    3. Tailpipes!
    4. 3.73 gears

I'm still up in the air on the wheels, I love the look of steelie but the cost of another set of wheels and tires is outta reach right now .... New tires alone are doable, so do I add 60 series front and back on the welds? or paint the welds black? or ???

    Hmmmm .....

      Keep us posted!

I think the alston folks have swing out kits with nice hardware to make that change a lot easier and nicer.

Lizard skin is basically ceramic micro spheres mixed into paint.... check out this microspheres here:

      for this kind of money:
      1 quart - 0.28 microspheres - $7.00 (about 5.1 oz)

I would think even if we mixed in the whole quart to maybe half a gallon of paint - to paint the floors - we'd end up with a good substitute for lizard skin for way way way cheaper.

I wouldn't paint the welds - look into the hubcap over lug nut idea to change the look if you want - painting or powder coating is sort of permanent... hard to "undo" without a lot of effort
There's always something new to learn.

But this would be cheaper .... I know I know. Not concerned with undoing to be honest ....

Throw some ideas on making a way to attach a dog dish over the welds ... The pic Squirrel got me says that the will cover the holes ...

You could spray your Welds with black plastic dip. It's easy to do and easy to remove if you dont like it. My brother did the Centerlines on his Camaro and they turned out great.

I've not done a ton of research - but it looks like you're on your own to build something that goes under the lug nuts that the hubcap attaches to, or, you're looking at a full hubcap that would engage the welds at the rim seat, not sure how that would work out.

Yes, it does. If there is the slightest little nick the water will seep in and form bubbles and thats all she wrote....or the water will catch it and pull it straight off.

Everyone is really worried about undoing things...I went the plasti dip route to see if I liked it. I did, so the next thing I will do is to invest in some good spray bomb primer and black paint and paint them. Thats what I want, thats what I like, if the next owner doesnt they can worry about it.

Hit it with the plastidip, see what you think. If you dont like it it peels right off no problem. There is tons of how to online, just goodle plastidip rims....

I don't have any connections for powder coat here, and all the places that do it want anywhere from $110 to $170 per wheel to coat them. That's why paint is so more attractive right now.

If you decide to just go with paint, I hear (and believe from this source) that the SEM primer is really good on aluminum wheels. Good enough that the guy who told me about it doesn't even put paint on top of it - just left them primed black, and they look good and he swears it's extremely durable.

Probably just hit them with some full strength degreaser to knock the shine/ polish off, then go to it.

I vote paint em, you can always blast em and repolish them later.

I will say though, that a black wheel, with a black tire sure does make a wheel well look like a black hole of nothingness.
