    Trees are great for shade.

Unfortunately - they also come with drawbacks...
    sap
    leaves in the fall
all sorts of stuff in the spring dropping all over the place - clogging up gutters

then there's the limbs that come down when it gets windy.

Sorry to rain on your parade!

Haha trees are a valuable item around here. I can deal with a little bird crap and our trees must be tougher than most because the wind ALWAYS blows here. This is the first house I have owned (3 others) that has a shady driveway and I am lovin' it.

Hey, I'm outside the rust belt, too! Guess I know where I stand.

We cleverly bought a house with NO trees - but the neighbors do. So we get the benefits w/o the maintenence. It wasn't REALLY planned that way but it's worked out really well.

                  Trees = birds =

I should talk, I think my wife & I have planted at least 40 trees at our place. The bluebird of happiness has plenty of opportunity here!

Y'all have to understand where James lives. About another month and he'll be singing tree praise all day. Bird crap is washable, keeping them pruned reduces big branch damage possibilities, but the shade in Amarillo during Summer... priceless.

                        Heck yeah!

The oaks are the biggest I have. They have trunks in the 20-24" range and are 35+ feet tall or so. They were planted when the house was new back in 1959-60. They might not be big by some people's standards, but they are plenty big for the Panhandle!

Seriously James - just giving you a hard time - I've been in Death Valley in the summer - I understand the value of shade!

I hope it reflects in more manageable AC bills as well as a nicer place to be in the driveway working on stuff.

I changed the oil and fuel filter in the truck last night in the driveway - sure is nice to do that in a tshirt after a long cold winter.

I really do hope you enjoy the new property - sounds like our houses were built about the same time - do you have hardwood floors and wet plaster walls - and need an electric service upgrade?

                          TGIF!

                            No, no and no. lol

It has planking and plywood subfloors, regular drywall (upper) & solid wood wains coat (lower) and the electrical is in very good condition! In fact, most of the wiring in this house is in metal conduit! VERY rare for a residential structure around here to have conduit. This house was built by a home builder for his personal residence, so everything was done up right. He lived here for 8 years before selling it to the people we bought it from.

Oh yeah, I love my porch swing too, but I'll save that for another thread. lol
