  • 1980 Ford Fairmont V10 Five speed swap

    I've been working on a 1980 Fairmont wagon for about 5 years. I've swapped in a 2003 6.8 liter V10 from an F-350. I've fabricated the wiring harness from multiple trips to wrecking yards and some after market components. I can probably clear up a lot of mis-information on the internet about the feasibility of doing this. I would welcome any questions as I have been involved in automotive and electronics my whole life. It is very drivable and though not a race car is very quick. Thanks, Steve

    Lol I was recently joking with my boys that we needed to swap a V10 in our 2003GT!

            Looks like a really clean swap. Looks like it fit better than I would have thought. Did you cut the firewall or tunnel? What 5 speed did you use? Any track times?

              Didn't have to cut anything! The secret to the entire swap was a 1 inch lowered mod motor adapter k member. A last generation t-45 with a lightweight billetflywheel.

                Hauen, The car was originally assembled in Las Vegas while I was working at the V.A. It was in their first car show. My brother Mike owned Silverstate Motorsports out at the speedway and they did the first V10 in a mustang swap about 20 years ago in a 1996 v6 stang. It was in Super Ford magazine

                  No track times. No cutting, Only a lowered mod motor adapter k member was required, lowered 1 inch

                            Thanks for the comments Dan, I think this might be my first project that I ever actually finish! I've got a lot of satisfaction out of doing this. Definitely on the down hill side now. Trying to decide on paint. It has an old high school auto shop paint job on it now and is pealing pretty bad. I'm thinking satin black with some flames!

                              You sure you want flat black in Arkansas heat? It takes just as much prep for flat black as it does for a color so you might as well go for something that doesn't soak up every last ray of sun (this is why Mutt and Truck have that light teal on top). If you've ever sat in a hot staging lane in a black car you know what I'm talkin' about. White, silver, or light metallic colors (like my teal) work best. Just a thought - hey, it's your car!
