After I elongated the fender bolt holes as needed I pulled the fender forward and attached it at the bottom so I can see how it actually fits. Gotta say I'm pickled tink. It couldn't fit much better.
Closeup of the door gap. Again, couldn't be much better.
Whilst we were on vacation a box of goodies showed up from Affordable Fuel injection (AFI) containing the reflashed computer and a whole set of spiffy new engine wiring harnesses. So between the AFI stuff and the Hot Rod Wires body harness I should be ready to run wires and completely eliminate all things Lucas. I won't actually be ready for wiring for a couple of months but it's great to have all this in hand. I'll need to paint the undercarriage and do whatever I'm going to do to rustproof the body shell before running any wires.

Affordable injection .... is that like government intelligence?

Let's say "it wasn't bad given the other option." At $900 it wasn't a give-away but CBM wanted almost twice as much for pretty much the same stuff. AFI has me retain the Solstice accelerator pedal while CBM insisted on providing a new one which was, as far as I could tell, the same piece. The rest of the difference seemed to be because they thought you'd pay it. I should note that I opted for a $100 upgrade for their spiffy (I think nylon) wire wrap so it could have been $800 and been functionally the same. The wrap does look great.
AFI provides these systems mostly for the dune buggy crowd, many of whom are jettisoning the air-cooled VW engine for the Ecotec. More power, cheap buy-in, greater reliability, and the ease of EFI are all enticements. AFI got involved in this arena and are well spoken of by the dune buggy crowd (I hope that's a good thing).
