Also bribed the kid into putting on my new rear cover while I dismantled the drum brakes.

Re: Gonna take a few weeks to work on MY STUFF

In total I will be adding aprox 328 lbs difference in weight back to this car including the

          Steel front fenders
          Chrome Bumpers
          Steel Hood
          Stock type radiator
          Stock location battery
          OEM type seats

So I am trying to get as much weight out of the car as possible and stay NHRA / IHRA legal.

Made a replacement rear package tray out of milk carton paper. ( the 3rd one came out right )

Installed OEM type seats. These are out of a later model buick and much lighter than the factory buckets ( the more popular thing to use is the lightest weight bench seat possible ) I'll take the weight hit here to leave the buckets.

Fashioned a head rest from and old Harley seat back and some aluminum stock

Still on a quest for weight reduction I got about 23-24 lbs off of each side of the car

Celeste stayed and helped all weekend until she cut her finger and we stopped to go home for a little better quality first aid than a duct tape bandage. ( she racked up allot of nova and Jr dragster points this weekend )

Two more yrs before she can get a state drivers license and then can race a big car legally. We might slide her to one of the outlaw tracks before then for some seat time in her nova.

She has been itching to race a door car. She wants a Stock Eliminator or Super Stock car when she moves out of Jr dragsters, instead of a big dragster. So....she might just end up with this car. Problem is she doesn't like buicks that much.

She is into Novas, Camaros and most all muscle Mopars......

If you get tired of Celeste send her my way. You're lucky to have a kid (male OR female) who actually enjoys the hobby and will spend the weekend with her Pop doing car stuff. You did SOMETHING right! And Celeste - enjoy these times - they'll be gone before you know it.

Whadda mean? Duct tape and paper towels are quality medical attention. Clean it out with Brake Clean. Then Super Glue it back together. If you don't start crying after all that, go back to work.

Good idea with the super glue !

Celeste is pretty tuff....seen her burn her hands between rounds working on the Jr Dragster clutches, with out gloves, thrashing to make lane calls and jump right back in the car.........but not so sure if the brake clean in an open cut would do her in or not ? I 'll give an update after the next shop / track injury gets this treatment

In all seriousness - it's a good idea to keep a first aid kit with a bottle of hydrogen peroxide - amazing what that stuff can do, stings a bit - but it leaves a wound clean!

Man those front brakes are impressive! I haven't seen a good safety wire job in a while - been toying with doing that on the header bolts in the ranger.
There's always something new to learn.

After this little event we yanked the 1st aid kit out of the race trailer and put it in the shop til I go shopping for better shop supplies.

Safety wire took a while, not having the Pro tools. We cut several sections off and did them over. Very happy with the end result....

At Maxton we see a LOT of it, especially on the bikes, where it is required on a number of fasteners (Todd or Slim would have to provide the specifics). But here in NC it's "safety WARR".

David understands. The coastal accent is different - almost Savannah - but we still use "warr".
