I disagree. It's so pure it welds like copper but takes more heat so you can really put the power to it. Aluminum is harder for me... and I'm definitely a beginner.

That said, there are a lot of REALLY fast guys out there running mild steel headers on a turbo. That's the route I plan to go.

On welding 321 stainless, I don't have any personal experience, so I will defer to you.

On the mild steel turbo headers, it not the power, its the thermal cycles that kills them. A REALLY fast car may only put 100 cycles a year on the headers. A street car could rack that up in a month. Talk to the Buick GN guys about trying to run cheap mild steel headers on the street.
I don't disagree that 321 or even 304 is better, but it's an order of magnitude more expensive and improperly designed, a hotside out of anything will cycle and crack.

I'm wondering if you should find another one, make it rotate backwards, and mesh the flywheel teeth. A couple hunks of plate and BINGO - a V12! Sorry - guess I got carried away.......

        Randal,

Ran across this while I was hunting inline six parts earlier. It may provide a little insight into what you're doing/want to accomplish. Hope this helps! ;D

Shannon, I've seen that one before. I'm thinking of a tubed header looking intake as well as exhaust. Turbo support will be important of course.

Yeah, the V/C's ARE cool. Or is that the V/C IS cool (singular).

Randal, I just though of the prefect chassis for this mill when it's done, two words- ProStreet Aztek!

I just dumped the 01 Aztek my wife drove after the engine died at 160k, it would been the prefect donor.

Think of the looks it would get, a boosted inline 6, 6 gear, back halfed, 4 doored weapon of mass destruction!

Sorry for the mental picture making you throw up in your mouth alittle bit ;D

Want my weirdness take on what to put it in... Mercedes SL, Datsun 510/610, or a Volvo 242 Coupe if you didn't want to pay the price for a Firebird to put it into. If you wanted to stick to Pontiac, Ventura with full on 2nd Gen F-body roadcourse suspension!

Gotta be a '69 Firebird to replace this one. I can afford a pricey one, but I have time and other projects, so can watch for a "right" priced one in the mean time.
