Love the project. this has got to be like building a ship in a bottle. It would be so much easier to to build a ship and then put it in the appropriate size jug .

I had to cut out semi circular notches several inches in diameter on either side of the ski boat steering "helm" which is a similarly cramped seating situation.... I don't know what kind of plans you have for the dash outward of the collumn on the sides, but - if you can come up with some sort of a "saddle" shape with a rise on both sides - it may allow you to get your knees in there but still keep the steering wheel in a good location.

I think this is why you see so many tilt columns in street rods.

As always - great progress. Hope you are and continue to - feel better!

Can you drop the pan and therefore give yourself more knee room? Given that this is your wifey's car, will sinking the seat allow her proper view over the hood? How about a "D" shaped steering wheel, giving you more thigh room?

We had the seat sunk on the Miata to fit our 6' 5" buddy.

I moved the entire column up 2" - gave me enough room (at least for now). Also, I think I'm going to make the steering column adjustable - not with a lever, but simply with a bolt on the back of the column.

Seems the biggest issue is going to be the foot well and where to put the brake and clutch master cylinders - it occupies the same space as the exhaust for the turbo.... ah well, if it were easy anyone would do it.

In other news, the manual steering turns quite easily - so that's a bit of a relief... no need for power steering.

With no wipers and no top, how much time are you going to spend parking in shopping malls anyway? Grin. Good progress...

Looks like they will be really close to sticking out? I can't wait to see them mounted!

1 1/2" flares are going to be required. I just haven't yet decided whether I'm going to build them out of metal or try to find something close out of fiberglass... I plan on keeping this car awhile so it'll probably be metal - but I'm not looking forward to doing them.

those are cool too, and had it been available; that would have been the choice... however, at less than 125 a wheel; I couldn't pass up the deal (and they are brand new)
