  • I have some trimming to do in the front of the rear fenders. I added a piece to each side, and left extra material so I could roll the edge nice. There is plenty of room for the tall tire if need be.
The goal is to be at a local strip by the end of June. Then we go to Illinois in July for Meltdown drags, then on to Drag Week. I won't have any time on it until Friday, but the pass side door is next, then trunk lid. Then I most likely will start on the steering column, and brake/gas pedal setup, and wiring. The engine block has to go back to the machine shop for a final cleaning- that will be on Friday. Then upon its return, it is ready for assembly and install.

    • The front end is on now, and I'm building the tilt hinge framing. The new lowered stance is perfect.

      • If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

        • Just watched the original Frankenstein this weekend with the boys, the Pontiac reminded me of it.

          • Side pipes / fender well exit / or full rear exiting tail pipes?

Looks like there might be enough room for side pipes where the rockers have rusted away - but the exit near the rear tire will be a bit tight?

              • Looks like 3" side pipes for the win. They will work great with the fender well exit headers.
I finally got the flip front mechanicals finished yesterday after some inspiration from seeing the new Mad Max movie. I used 1" tubing and pillow block bearings. It works perfect. I can raise and lower the entire front end with one hand. I still have some reinforcing to do and make a stop to keep the front from laying on the ground when flipped up.

                      • I reset the engine and transmission, mounted the headers and, the steering shaft fit perfectly. I'll set the column and brake pedal next.

                              • How tight is the steering shaft to the header tubes?
Hard to see from the side shot.

                                Just wondering about engine movement.
