IF I do try oven cleaner, I'll have a face shield and gloves, and a gentle dribble to rinse it off. Oven cleaner is lye, which is a base, which is neutralized by acids... and we have A. pretty hard water around here. and B. I'll spray it down with lemon juice or vinegar after to neutralize it.

But I WON'T get oven cleaner on aluminum!! Instantly starts to eat it!
Wasn't saying run oven cleaner thru the pressure washer... That'd be... Well ya know...
Isn't baking soda the neutralizer? I know vinegar and baking soda opens drains....

Baking soda is basic - so is Lye. Lye is so basic that it is caustic. You neutralize Lye with water (a lot) or something acidic, like vinegar which is mildly acidic. Sodium bicarbonate makes a good antacid for belly aches as well, but pretty bad if you're supposed to be watching your salt.

Drag that bitch to the carwash.

LOL.... Dude, it weighs like 6000lbs without the engine in it... Sure, I'll just toss a clothesline over the bumper and jog it down to the carwash... if you don't hear back from me, it's 'cause I got killed when it ran me over from behind going downhill in my own driveway... lol. Itsa BIG bitch.

Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?

One of the best things I did with the falcon was leave it on the trailer and take it to the quarter car was - I was soaked when i was done - but it was the best way to get the most crud off in the least amount of time.

If you're planning on repainting anyway - I think EZ OFF maybe the best way to go if the stuff is really caked on there.
There's always something new to learn.

Did a little corrosion protection... aka, battle with the Rust Demons.

I shoulda taken a "before" pic... this hood had been baking in the AZ sun for it's entire life, then it spent a winter out behind the garage in MASSA-freakin'-choo-setts. SNOW, RAIN... yada, yada, yada.

What little paint was left was a chalky mess, and the rest was just surface rust. Luckily, we caught it before it got too deep...

Deaf Bob, we took your advice and used EZ-Off for removing the paint lol.... EZ, as in... 100 grit and about an hour of elbow grease...

            I enlisted the little lady.

Yes, we wear scrubs when we 'operate'... lol...

I almost thought about clear coating it right here... forgot to take pics of the primer, but that's boring crap...

It's in three coats of Rust-Oleum right now, in the barn, waiting for me to re-install it.

Ahhh looks like too nice of a place to ruin with caustic stuff.
Lil elbow grease never hurt nobody!

Always nice to use clothes somebody else washes! Or do you wash and sterelize your scrubs?

Only need to sterilize the scrubs if I somehow end up bleeding! Lol, I spilled enough acetone while wiping it down to sterilize quite a bit....

crappy cell phone pic, but here's the red... Needs another coat I think. Rattle cans are a PITA, but this truck will see plenty of tree branch scratches, so I'm not real worried about it...

Hammerin' out some dents prior to priming... had to get creative with what I used for a dolly, as a couple dents were in spots inside a double walled panel. Oh, well. Got most of 'em.

So, it's been a year... Sorry for the delay guys, but I got a new job, moved, had a kid, got engaged, blew up a motor, rebuilt it (AGAIN! &@$%#!!) and am now finally getting it done and will soon be pouring concrete so that I can actually roll it over to the truck and install it.

The captions work funny from the iPhone.... Hafta hold your cursor over the photo to see 'em. Weird. Spent 3 hrs today leveling a dirt hole for a concrete pad... THAT should make dropping this big bitch in a bit easier than doing it on gravel, lol...

Absolutely. My driveway is gravel, and when I had to pull the engine out of my truck last year, I was able to use a bit of my garage (mostly for the engine hoist - the truck would be too tight in there.) and butt a 3/4" sheet of plywood up to the slab so the engine hoist had something to roll on besides gravel. Worked out great for me. Of course, if the gravel wasn't exactly 3/4" lower than the slab already, it would have been a bit more work - because those steel wheels on the engine hoists don't like to roll over uneven surfaces.
