The heater core has been out for YEARS I like to have froze driving from Statesville to Wilson (200 miles) early one winter morning. It is not a race car, besides the dragstrip is open in Jan here if above 50. The A/C works I have not had the heart to open it up to fix the heat.

Why do you need bulbs in the heater controls?

How to you attach a garden hose to the inlet and out let?

The garden hose flushing systems I'm familiar with have a T that goes into the heater hoses, where you connect the garden hose, then either leave the radiator cap off, or put the "snap in" hose connection into the radiator neck that directs the flow and you can connect an outlet hose to that to better control the run off.
There's always something new to learn.

I would like to add a coolant filter to help remove the rust I can flush out. Anyone ever done that?
Coolant filters are available for diesels-just google it. Might be more than you want to spend though.

Looks like summit has a base for 40 the filter is about 10 plus hose and fittings. It might be worth it. One guy put a small washable glass fuel filter in the egr line that would Be cheap and easy. How do you know when to change those spin on filters?

The cheap solution on these things is to go to the Home Depot and pick up a filter for an air compressor. I've used the CH blue filter with the clear bowl.

That would be the way to go with the "T"
Since the radiator will be out for replacing, just leave rad hoses on the motor, add hose connectors to a heater hose since you already have them looped.. The "T" that comes in a kit will have a bunch of stuff you may not use..
You can buy brass hose repair ends for $2 at Walmart.. 5/8 and 3/4.

Worked on the mustang today, unhooked the lower radiator hose sprayed water through the radiator and the block until clear. I removed the bypass hose got my old garden hose that already been fixed. Took it apart put the supply end on the intake the exit on the water pump. Ran water until it was clear. Forgot to crank it. Pulled the old radiator dropped in the new one fit great other needing to trim the hoses do to the thinker tanks.

I took pictures with my phone but photobucket has not loaded them yet. I took it for a ride ran much better, but never got up to temp, I still have not put the new thermostat in, so it got up to around 130* still has 100% water I am going to drain it a few more times before I put antifreeze.

Says 125* max, and not compatible with antifreeze. Are the just a bunch of wimps or is there a better one?

Unless you are driving long distances, have a covered radiator or radiator has less cap than the motor, or it s a hot day.. It is kinda unlikely to get hot without a thermostat.. For derby use, we take the guts out of a thermostat to slow the flow, and we run smaller radiators.. Might still see clear water in the radiator now.. If so.. Might as well put the thermostat in and anti freeze..

                          Bummer...

                          Got the pictures loaded
Old and Busted v/s new shiny

Some times my cheapness gets the better of me, for the last month I have been trying to advoid buying a new radiator, It did allow me to get this one off CL. The old radiator was due to be replaced

New this one has a thinker core, 3 rows the old one had 2. Once i hooked it up you could see the water trickling out of the tubes in stead of spraying out of the ones that were not cloged.

                          Before

After, I almost painted the new radiator the shiny kind of sticks out in all of the other grime.

I picked this up I am going to try it inplace of the TB coolant passage that feeds off the heater hose pipe.

Its glass so hopefully the heat will not bother it. should be able to clean it and they sell replacement filters.

Proform makes a black magic knock off with a built in thermostat for fox cars that I bet youd like.

I have a e-fan out of a thunder bird (looks the same as the mark viii fan everyone loves) and a g3 alternator. Just need an electric thermostat or a switch.
