I realized later that I need to write the thought process behind locating the pumps where they're at....
So here's the reasons of why it's there:
1) They say it's okay to mount in the engine compartment - that gets hotter than where I mounted it.
2) that area never gets submerged - and even if it does the air intake is above the axle vents.... plus, I can't imagine a situation where I'll be in 30" of water and using the air compressors
3) if it does get wet, the muffler will warm it up enough to keep it dry it out quickly.
4) There will be a splash shield on the wiring end
5) Heat is, by far and away, the biggest problem with these tiny air compressors - heat generated by the compressor itself... and that is my biggest concern... the muffler might get that space to 90*... and yes, I was under there with my laser heat gun testing prior to install.
Just as an aside, we use these all the time for wheeling (the stand-alone ones) - and bury them in snow to keep them from overheating) so water infiltration really hasn't been something I've seen from my use of themDoing it all wrong since 1966Comment

continuing on with the install
I made a cap for the end to prevent pressurized water from hitting the end of the air compressor - according to other installs, that will be fine (crossing fingers)

ran some wiring

the air outlet is attached to flexible hoses and well zip-tied to a bracket.... I didn't hard mount it because I suspect I won't like that spot.... seriously, I'm considering putting the air outlet inside the car to keep contamination out of the end.

and run to a relay under the hood

I still need to run a pressure switch and wire the dash switch... but at least now I can hot wire it and use it.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

finished up the wiring today - promptly blew the compressor line when I used it to test whether or not it'd fill all the tires from 8 psi

nice, safe spot for the air outlet

I also found the Ford solenoid couldn't handle a full-power for the 20 minutes or so it takes to fill the tires - so I'll have to find a heavy duty solenoid (like they use in electric pallet jacks).
I also ordered some braided line for the compressor line.... close, very close to doneDoing it all wrong since 1966Comment

AARRRRGGGHHHHHHH
Why the hell Summit Racing doesn't give me a choice when ordering stuff from them as to who delivers the package?.... the USPS is the most useless group of immigrants I've ever seen. Lazy, uncaring sloths - but not sloths... sloths are useful. I'm done ordering from Summit. Jegs uses Fed Ex and never USPS - at least then I'll get my parts in 2 days.... 4 days and counting. I needed the parts yesterday, and had they sent it UPS, it would have been here.... no knowing when it's going to arrive - and even if I were to re-order and put the other parts into backstock - I still wouldn't have my parts until Monday... and that's presuming they wouldn't again send it USPS.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

for some reason, the USPS sent my stuff to finish my H3 to North Carolina.... not sure why, but it's not surprising... it's the USPS
despite them, I got stuff done
I removed, then put this right back on. It got warm when I was doing my test, so I bought a made in USA relay.... it just didn't work at all....

I put a pressure relief valve here... for some reason, I didn't take a picture of the completed - but it aims at the relays

I installed the fans for the compressors

Want more fun with USPS? Be on a training route. Every six weeks we get a new illiterate schmuck who couldn't find his ass with both hands a mirror.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

the level of incompetency at USPS is truly amazing. An example, I got a note from the parking nazis in Seattle that we hadn't paid a ticket. We sent two checks to pay the fine, neither arrived and eventually I paid it via the 'net. Several months later, the parking nazis send both checks back; they'd received them 3-6 months after I paid. Of course, it wasn't their fault that the USPS didn't deliver the mail.... that's just one example.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

USPS has the best track record for getting stuff to me compared to FedEx (the worse) and UPS (so-so).Escaped on a technicality.Comment

Well USPS gets it there for me, but sometimes takes a bit longer than expected! I just got a package back that I sent to a friend back in Pittsburgh, Pa. about 17 months ago! It was marked "RTS address unknown". I had long ago gotten an insurance claim for it, and given up on ever seeing it, even though records said they had attempted delivery 3 times without success. I sent it FedEx this time, as he requested I NOT use USPS again.Originally posted by TheSilverBuick View PostUSPS has the best track record for getting stuff to me compared to FedEx (the worse) and UPS (so-so).

I'd like to draw your attention to exhibit a:Originally posted by Deaf Bob View PostLast photo... Wires over and under braided line... Rasp effect will remove insulation rather quickly if it isn't plastic braided?

note how the twisted red wires are connected to the 10 ga wire via a knot to the other red wire? .....
I submit the wiring isn't done yet
I need the butt connector that I forgot to pick up today to complete it

so I knew I had to buy parts, but couldn't remember what parts (stupid plugs).... anyway, I still got most of this done

yeah, I should have bought a bit longer hose, but this will work just fine

I'm considering putting a shield over the manifold - though, the type of wheeling I do, odds are it'll never be a problem (damage)
