So I'm getting back in the mood to start working on the old pig ....
Ordered a set of 3" tailpipes today to hopefully quiet it down a bit, or at least get all the sound out behind the car. It currently has 3" flowmasters w/turn-downs in front of the axle. I'm quite ok w/it the way it is, but everyone else that will ever ride in it says it's annoying, so ....
The other thing I'm torn between is cutting the 'bar out of it. I can put the swing-outs in but it will still be a pain for anyone over the age of 12 to get in the back seat....besides, I can always slow the car down to run right up to the 11.50 break. The flip side is, the kids won't be riding back there forever so do I just live with it for a few more years? The interior will be out by the end of the week for some heat barrier/sound deadening.
Decisions, decisions .....Whiskey for my men ... and beer for their horses!Comment

Not sure if its NHRA legal, but I have seen removable shoulder bars to make back seat access easier.Originally posted by Bamfster View PostSo I'm getting back in the mood to start working on the old pig ....

they are kids, they can deal with it....and they are far mor flexible than adults....If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark DonohueComment

The subject of removable shoulder bars came up last week. Chassisman (I think) said that removable ones are not legal. Although there is a kit that has a removable bar - it is not nhra legal.
So far, I don't have any plans to take mine out of the car, although I'm sure it's now slower than 11.50... I kinda like it in the car.Comment

Yea, per NHRA rule book, removable crossbars are a no-go. I wonder if the addition of seats that fold forward would be an option? What I'd really like to have is a factory bench that fold forward for rear seat accessibility, but the prices the guys around here want are ridiculous.Whiskey for my men ... and beer for their horses!Comment

I had folding seats in my Buick, they really didn't help - the only way into the back seat (short of removing the seat) was over the bar through the center.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

That's what the kids do now, and in the process they end up kicking the dash, shifter and whatever else is in the way.Originally posted by SuperBuickGuy View PostI had folding seats in my Buick, they really didn't help - the only way into the back seat (short of removing the seat) was over the bar through the center.Whiskey for my men ... and beer for their horses!Comment

So I yanked all of the interior out last week. The "in-expensive" home depot adhesive insulation stuff that I lined the floor with last summer (to help mitigate the heat issue) has retained moisture against the floor pans .... now I have a nice coat of rust in the footwells. I'm thinking Lizard Skin at this point for the heat/noise barrier.
On a few side notes, what do you guys use for the vapor barriers between the door panels and inner doors? Anybody ever use heat shields on their exhaust/mufflers to help w/heat control?Whiskey for my men ... and beer for their horses!Comment

The OEM does, all the time. Especially over the top of the catalytic converters, which get really hot.Originally posted by Bamfster View PostSo I yanked all of the interior out last week.
